Job summary
We are looking for a professionally qualified social worker, qualified nurse or AHP to support us to meet our statutory responsibilities to people who are deprived of their liberty.
You will have with a excellent knowledge and understanding of the Mental Capacity Act and experience of making applications for Community Deprivation of Liberty Orders.
You will be someone who is passionate about human rights and autonomy.

Main duties of the job
Senior Practitioners DOLS/LPS Specialist Workstream
What will I do in this role?
Working alongside colleagues, you will assist NHS Dorset in meeting its statutory requirements under the Mental Capacity Act. You will complete applications to the court for Community Deprivation of Liberty Orders for people eligible for Continuing Health Care funding. You will support colleagues in making applications and be part of work to support excellent practice in the Mental Capacity Act. You will be involved in providing training, running advice sessions, creating resources and shaping the development of the MCA Team.
Qualifications
You need to be a qualified social worker, registered nurse, or allied health professional. Ideally, you also need to hold a Best Interest Assessor qualification, but this is not essential.
Experience
You will have a wide breadth of skills and knowledge across the health and/or care system but may have specialist expertise working with people who have a learning disability and/or people who live with mental health concerns.
You will have specialist knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and be able to write applications to court for Community Deprivation of Liberty Orders that are of a high standard.
You will have excellent assessment skills and be able to analyse complex information.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will play a key role in supporting the Personal Health Commissioning Service.
Working within framework of the Mental Capacity Act and the National Framework for NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC), the post holder will deliver an effective and competent level of service and consistently deliver a client-focused service.
NHS Dorset currently offers a hybrid model of working with a percentage of contracted hours being on site or on visits and the remainder being home based.
Working within the Framework of the Mental Capacity Act, the successful candidate will primarily be required to undertake applications to the Court of Protection for Community Deprivation of Liberty Orders for individuals who are eligible for Continuing Health Care Funding. The post holder will therefore need to be familiar with the Community Deprivation of Liberty process and competent in undertaking capacity assessments and in facilitating Best Interests decision making.
There is a significant element of face-to-face work with individuals and their families and carers within the individuals home setting in this role, and also partnership working across the multidisciplinary teams supporting individuals.
This role requires the postholder to produce detailed, person centred and high-quality applications to the Court of Protection and so requires high levels of attention to detail and an ability to analyse health, social care, and other agency records to create strong and congruent applications.
Alongside, completing applications for the court, the postholder will also work to support colleagues in other teams to undertake their own applications for Community Deprivation of Liberty Orders. This may include supporting colleagues with capacity assessments and Best Interests processes, offering specialist advice around completing paperwork and the process generally and acting to scrutinize completed applications and offer feedback to colleagues on these using a high standard of professional judgement.
The nature of this post will require a reasonable level of physical, emotional, and mental resilience, including shifting and balancing priorities and competing agendas, as well as ongoing exposure to direct emotional circumstances such as dealing with relatives / carers.
The post holder should hold a full UK driving license and have access to a vehicle to be able to fulfil the requirements of this post.
