Ensure the effective implementation of EHS requirements and elements (Genentech/Roche internal requirements and applicable federal, state and local environmental, health and safety regulations)
Act as PTT’s SHE Lead to ensure compliance and conformance with applicable Roche Directives, country, federal, state and local regulations, and site SHE construction safety programs.
Extensive pro-active and cross-function collaboration with organizations across Genentech/Roche network to develop and implement strategies and procedures to manage EHS compliance risks and protect our Right to Operate
Support internal and external EHS audits, including hosting regulatory agency inspections, as required
Act as certified reviewer for discipline reviews for PTT CAPEX Projects, providing technical input and technical coordination in the areas of design safety including design guidance on EPA, Cal-OSHA, safety related codes, applicable Roche directives, country, federal, state and local regulations, and Genentech/Roche EH&S programs
Lead the development to establish Capex project safety methodology and management addressing construction project field safety
Collaborate and share knowledge with the Genentech and Roche SHE communities on requirements, practices, and methodologies to ensure compliance and safe behaviors in project planning, design, and project execution
BS/MS in relevant engineering field (Mechanical, Chemical, or Environmental) or scientific field
Minimum of 12-15 years relevant work experience in environment, health and safety, with an emphasis in construction safety
Experience in the biomedical, biopharmaceutical, or medical device fields is strongly preferred
Certification in one or more of the following areas is strongly preferred: Certified Safety Professional, Construction Health & Safety Technician, Certified Environmental Auditor, Certified Environmental Professional, or Professional Engineer
Robust familiarity and experience with relevant Country, Federal, State and local regulatory requirements including, but not limited to, building and fire code, NFPA, ANSI standards, environmental and OSHA regulations
Experience providing guidance and managing work activities of others
Proven track record of developing practical solutions for a variety of complex problems and initiatives
Deep experience in Capital project design and project execution, including field construction
Pharmaceutical GMP project mechanical design experience, experience in project management and/or experience working in a campus environment preferred
Global experience preferred; can adapt to and effectively manage across various cultural environments and organizational levels, including executive management
Significant travel including weekly commuting or travel to temporary remote assignments
Potential - International project assignment of 1 to 3 years as required to meet business needs
Excellent leadership, interpersonal collaboration, teambuilding, conflict resolution and influencing skills
Exceptional verbal, written communication and presentation skills, including the ability to prepare clear and concise technical memos and communicate effectively, with stakeholders, executive-level management, and government regulatory agencies
Self-starter, able to work independently and achieve results with minimal direction
Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments
Strong business and technical acumen, strategic agility and global perspective
Proficient knowledge of English (written & spoken) a must, other additional languages a plus

Purpose
Global MSAT & Engineering executes major CAPEX projects in the Pharma Division with focus mainly on Pharma Technical Operations (PT). This position is responsible to lead the design, implementation, compliance, and continuous improvement of Roche’s Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) program within the Global Project Delivery group (PTT-D). This position will ensure that SHE requirements, including all applicable local, country, and statutory regulatory requirements, are being appropriately incorporated into planning, design, construction and execution of Capital Projects.
The Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Engineer reports to the Head of Global Projects within the PTT-D organization.
Key Responsibilities:
The Principal SHE Engineer will be the PTT industry expert in the area of environmental, health, safety and compliance for Capex projects’ design and construction phases, acting as a subject matter expert and advising consultant in these areas. The Principal SHE Program Managers focus areas, responsibilities and tasks span PTT’s full portfolio of Capex projects (ranging in size from $5M to $500M) and are grouped into two main focus areas (Capex SHE Design and Project Construction Safety), as generally described below:

This position will ensure compliance with EH&S design standards as well as with construction field safety requirements during Capital projects’ design, execution and handover, for PTT’s full portfolio of Capex projects.
