  • Job Description

      Req#: REQ233289
      • You are always looking to fix a business problem, with an eye to the horizon for the next technology solutions

      • We are pitching compelling propositions to our business to enhance the customer experience

      • Together we will push the boundaries and deliver tomorrow’s bank, today

      Do work that matters

The CIO for Technology team ensures that CommBank is at the forefront of technology, using innovative and emerging technology to help our customer and support our Group Strategy.

We work hard to ensure that best practice, whether inside CommBank or outside in the broader technology ecosystem, is discovered, sheltered, nurtured, and spread to wherever else it can drive the most benefit for the Group and our customers.

We are actively involved in the technology community, innovation, research, and partnerships that will set Australia up for success as the economy transitions to a more digital future.

      See yourself in our team

We’re looking for a product leader who’s energized by ambiguity, driven by curiosity, and obsessed with finding the right problems to solve. You’ll lead a cross-functional discovery squad, partnering closely with a Principal Engineer and Design Lead to shape early product direction, validate ideas, and deliver real outcomes for customers and the business.

Our team partners with Business Units to help them take bold bets – and this is a hands-on role at the intersection of strategy, customer insight, and experimentation—perfect for someone who thrives in the messy, creative front-end of product development. You’ll not only lead by doing but also help uplift others by sharing how great discovery and experimentation is done well.

On any given week you will

      • Lead the product side of discovery—working with design and engineering to explore opportunities, define problem spaces, and evaluate potential solutions through experimentation

      • Frame the strategic context clearly — connecting discovery efforts to broader business goals and commercial viability

      • Own the decision-making process: shape, validate, and be accountable for what moves forward and what doesn’t

      • Frame hypotheses, run rapid tests, gather insights, and iterate quickly to inform what we build (and what we don’t)

      • Shape early-stage bets, turning insights into actionable ideas, prototypes, and clear recommendations

      • Translate business and customer signals into testable concepts with measurable impact

      • Collaborate deeply with your triad partners (Principal Engineer and Design Lead) to drive aligned exploration

      • Make space for creativity: champion a culture of open exploration, safe-to-fail tests, and customer-led thinking

      • Balance strategy with execution—zoom out to shape direction, zoom in to run tightly scoped experiments

      • Coach and uplift others by sharing your approach to discovery, mentoring peers, and co-facilitating experiments

      • Engage senior stakeholders across business units, aligning discovery efforts to strategic priorities

      About You:

      • You’re a strategic thinker who’s also a hands-on doer—able to move fluidly between vision and scrappy testing.

      • You’ve proven experience leading discovery efforts, and can navigate ambiguity and confidently frame opportunity spaces, set direction, and align others.

      • You take ownership and are comfortable being accountable for what your team proceeds with—and why.

      • You combine customer insight, data, and commercial thinking to shape early-stage product decisions.

      • You have exceptional communication skills and stakeholder management skills —you build trust, influence outcomes and bring others on the journey – and can engage confidently with senior leaders and sponsors.

      • You’re a natural translator—able to navigate between design, engineering, and business perspectives, and communicate clearly across all levels.

      • You thrive in early-stage, cross-functional environments where experimentation, curiosity, and pace matter.

      • You’ve worked in triad models or similar, partnering deeply with design and engineering leads. Experience working in discovery and experimentation at leading tech companies is highly preferred.

If the idea of working with our business units to solve for problems and be at the forefront of discovery and experimentation sounds like you, then apply now!

If you're already part of the Commonwealth Bank Group (including Bankwest, x15ventures), you'll need to apply through Sidekick to submit a valid application. We’re keen to support you with the next step in your career.
