Senior Project Manager - Beyond Net Zero Delivery (Flexibly located within Scotland)
This job is now closed
Job Description
- Req#: R7759
Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.
Can you help us build and maintain a carbon neutral water network for Scotland?
The Scottish Government is encouraging everyone to work together to tackle climate change and has set an ambitious target to become ‘Net Zero’ by 2045. Scottish Water has responded by committing to Net Zero emissions by 2040, a full five years earlier. We will need to undergo a sweeping transformation over the next 16 years to achieve it.
Do your bit by joining us as a Senior Project Manager in our Beyond Net Zero Delivery team.
What you’ll do
As a Senior Project Manager, your focus will be driving down carbon emissions within our Capital Investment projects. We construct and maintain water distribution and treatment assets across Scotland – essential national infrastructure that Scotland relies on. These projects and specifically the materials we use in construction offer one of the biggest opportunities to make a difference to our overall carbon footprint. You will be working with internal specialists, external contractors, and supply chain partners to manage a portfolio of Net Zero initiatives and a Woodland creation programme, which covers the whole project lifecycle.
You will be a natural influencer and use your top-notch communication skills to secure buy-in for our Net Zero agenda. You will be working with key business stakeholders from day one to get everyone on-board and help drive the behavioural change needed to make sure carbon reduction is at the heart of internal and supply chain decision-making.
What you will bring
You will have experience in the construction industry in a project management or supply chain focused role. You will know how large infrastructure projects are managed and understand the roles of different stakeholders in delivering them.
We will need you to be an ambassador for our Net Zero goals, and authentically sell the benefits and importance of making this happen, so you’ll need to have a genuine interest in sustainability and the Net Zero agenda. It would be handy if you have worked in this space previously.
Strong project management skills are a must. You will need the ability to establish clear plans, set performance milestones, translate goals into detailed plans and track deliverables.
Net Zero is not something we can afford to fail on. So, you will need to be results-driven with a laser focus on making sure we hit our targets and be committed to solving challenges along the way.
To meet our goals, we need to embed new practices and ways of working. You will need to be able to manage change and have experience of continuous improvements, as well as more transformational change programmes.
A driving licence is non-negotiable. You will need to live within commuting distance of one of our main office hubs, e.g., Edinburgh, Stepps, Dundee, Inverness, but you'll need your hi vis on standby for site visits.
Looking out for you
While the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.
This is a full time (37 hours per week) role, Monday to Friday. You will get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take time off to volunteer in your community.
When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working. For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), and life assurance.
As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.
The not-so-small print
The starting salary for this role will be between £45,873 and £58,418.
If you are interested in this role – or know someone else who might be - we’ll be accepting applications until midnight on Sunday 11 February 2024. And we’re aiming to do interviews for this role the week commencing Monday 19 February.
A few final things worth knowing…
Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If you’re interested in this job, but don’t tick all the boxes, apply anyway! We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. Everyone has a learning curve. So don’t rule yourself out!
Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters!). We're also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. We’re very used to making adjustments, so please don’t be afraid to ask.
As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it’s important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don’t already live here, you'll need to commit to moving here within your first three months.
Finally (finally!), candidates who haven’t submitted an application in the last 12 months will have their records removed from our recruitment database. You won’t need to do anything. Your data will be automatically deleted.
