About the Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Met presents over 5,000 years of art from around the world for everyone to experience and enjoy. The Museum lives in two iconic sites in New York City—The Met Fifth Avenue and The Met Cloisters. Millions of people also take part in The Met experience online.

Since its founding in 1870, The Met has always aspired to be more than a treasury of rare and beautiful objects. We are committed to fostering a collaborative and respectful work environment with a staff as diverse as the audiences we engage. Our staff members are art lovers who are passionate about working toward a common goal: creating the most dynamic and inspiring art museum in the world.

At The Met, every staff member – from security officers to researchers to scientists and beyond – lives by our core values of respect, inclusivity, collaboration, excellence, and integrity.

Respect: Engage one another with collegiality, empathy, and kindness, always.

Inclusivity: Ensure that all are and feel welcome and valued.

Collaboration: Reach across boundaries to exchange ideas and work together toward our shared mission.

Excellence: Lead the cultural world in quality and expertise—and inspire curiosity and creativity.

Integrity: Hold ourselves to the highest moral standards, admit when we fall short, and then evolve.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

As the Senior Project Manager for Content Strategy, you will work across teams to co-develop and implement a unified content strategy and related workflows for The Museum’s audience-facing content, programming, and promotional departments, including Digital, Education, Marketing, Publications, Imaging, Libraries, and Live Arts (collectively called Audience Engagement). Reporting to the Deputy Director of Audience Engagement, you enable teams to better-prioritize content initiatives, to identify and prioritize audiences, and to better define the role of content within the larger audience experience. You are an innovative and highly collaborative leader and serve as a key driver in shaping the future of the Museum as accessible, welcoming, engaging, and in active dialogue with its many audiences.

      PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

      • Work collaboratively across departments to create and manage a unified content strategy for the variety of in-person and online experiences (e.g., events, lectures, digital media, print publications, email, social media, etc.) managed by the Audience Engagement departments.

      • Convene and facilitate collaborative work sessions and serve as a key liaison between the Audience Engagement departments and internal partners to coordinate and integrate storytelling across a range of formats to drive engagement and impact for audiences onsite and online.

      • Help to develop and maintain a content calendar aligning key dates and deliverables related to all audience-facing content and special projects developed by the Audience Engagement departments.

      • Work with key partners to recommend content standards, best practices, and processes for content development, including coordination of internal review processes.

      • Analyze workflows within and across departments related to content strategy and planning, identify areas that need improvement, and implement changes.

      • Establish criteria for content evaluation and feedback, including establishing KPIs and data reporting for content.

      • Research, explore, and define future possibilities for the Museum related to innovations in storytelling and content production for audience engagement.

      • Collaborate with Audience Engagement project managers on a holistic strategy for innovation, prioritization, and focus.

      • Train and educate teams about content strategy by leading workshops, supporting the development of digital competencies, sharing guidelines on writing for different audiences on various platforms, and more.

      • Other duties as assigned.

      EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

      • Bachelor’s Degree in related field, or equivalent work experience.

      • 5 years of relevant work experience.

      • Experience writing, creating and/or editing content for a wide range of audiences, ideally for a museum or related setting.

      • Knowledge of new developments in storytelling, related technologies, and content delivery.

      • Strong organizational skills, and experience overseeing multiple projects simultaneously from initiation through completion.

      • Highly collaborative working style.

      • Familiarity with user research and/or testing, analyzing content performance, and evolving content in response to audience feedback or quantitative and qualitative data.

      • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with project management platforms such as JIRA, Basecamp, and Airtable.

      • Comfortable implementing standards and best practices for making content accessible, such as content formatting to meet WCAG standards and writing visual descriptions.

      COMPENSATION RANGE:

      • Pay Range: $150,000.00 - $160,000.00 / Annually
