      The Prince William County Police Department is seeking a Firearms Instructor to join our team of hardworking professionals to provide a high level of training to our members.

      Prince William County is a growing, diverse, and dynamic community located within easy commuting distance of Northern Virginia and Washington DC. The selected candidate will work as part of the staff of the Prince William County Criminal Justice Academy. The selected candidate will be assigned to work at the Mike Pennington Scenario Based Training Center, located at 7751 Doane Drive, Manassas, VA.

      About This Role:
      Prince William County Police Firearms Instructors provide quality Firearms training to students and maintain safety during all training exercises.

      Prince William County Firearms instructors are assigned to the Prince William County Criminal Justice Academy Scenario Based Training Center. Firearms instructors are responsible for providing quality firearms training to all sworn personnel. The position requires candidates to understand and apply adult learning concepts to students in order to relay information effectively. Firearms instructors are responsible for the day-to-day safety and security of the Firearms range facility. All Firearms instructors act as safety officers during training and must maintain a zero tolerance for range violations. Firearms instructors develop and prepare lesson plans, shooting courses, range maintenance, weapon maintenance, and numerous other tasks as assigned by the Firearms Range Manager.

      Minimum Requirements:
      High school diploma or G.E.D. and 3 years of related (Firearms Training) experience.

      Preferences:
      • Associate’s or higher degree
      • Experience as a Firearms Instructor
      • Current certification from Virginia DCJS as a General Instructor and Firearms Instructor.
      • Experience with law enforcement and Firearms training experience.
      • Glock, Remington, and FN armorer's certifications.

      Special Requirements:
      • Must possess a valid driver's license.
      • Must pass DMV check, polygraph, background investigation and employment physical.
      • Must be proficient in the operation of motor vehicles.
      • Must be able to lift 60 pounds.
      • Must have Firearms Instructor experience.
      • Must be able to pass a DCJS, TQC3 course of fire with 90% or better prior to being hired.

      Work Schedule:
      All Firearms instructors work schedules are determined based on the training being conducted. Firearms Instructors typically work a day shift schedule on weekdays typically 6am – 4pm. . The schedule includes working during evening and night hours with some holiday work required based on the training schedule. The position requires frequently working past the scheduled work hours and occasionally being on call. The ability to adjust the working hours and workdays during training cycles is mandatory. As necessary some weekend and holiday work are required. Could be on-call on rare occasions.

      Starting Salary Range:
      $38.61 – $45.42 hourly
