Job Description

- Carries out all functions performed by Records Clerks
- Responds to user inquiries and resolves or refers user problems
- Assists in providing functional oversight and training of section personnel
- Prepares and monitors the scanning box logs, error sheet logs, and maintain error files in imaging software database
- Makes plain, certified, and exemplified copies of legal documents
- Answers questions in person and by telephone, responds to inquiries and refers calls to other departments as appropriate
- Performs related duties as required.
- Graduation from High School or General Education Development (GED) certificate, and three (3) years general office experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Good knowledge of basic office procedures; knowledge of alphabetic and numeric file systems; knowledge of basic legal terminology; judicial procedures; and records management.
- Skill in operating a personal computer, imaging equipment, and basic office equipment.
- Ability to accurately enter data; ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; ability to deal with hostile or irrational individuals; ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions; ability to effectively respond to customer inquiries and complaints; ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers, other County employees, attorneys and the general public; ability to accurately collect cash; ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Acts in the name of the District Clerk and shall perform all official acts as may be lawfully done and performed by such Clerk in person, pursuant to Section 51.303 of the Texas Government Code.
- Must be bondable.
- Must have legible penmanship.
- Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation by the District Clerk.
- Must secure and maintain a pre-employment physical and drug screen
- May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
- Working conditions are primarily in an office environment.
- Physical requirements include lifting/carrying 15-20 lbs. frequently and up to 40 lbs. occasionally; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard, and basic office equipment. Subject to sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, bending, climbing, and handling to perform the essential functions.
- Tasks and special requirements unique to an individual office or department may be addressed through a separate list of detailed specifications prepared by that office/department and subject to approval by Human Resources and the Civil Service Commission. Office/department specifications may not be more complex nor at a higher level of responsibility than any of those contained in this position description.
Under direct supervision, is responsible for all functions performed by Records Clerks.
