      Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED) has an opportunity for an experienced Scientific Manager to take on a key leadership role in the newly established department of Cell Therapy in gRED Research Biology.

      Reporting directly to the Vice President & Head of Cell Therapy ,the selected candidate will lead a team of 3 to 5 scientific or technical staff members to collectively assume primary accountability for laboratory operations relevant to Cell Therapy, ensuring that all aspects of achieving organizational objectives and ambitions are met effectively. Additionally, the Senior Scientific Manager will provide core partnership to the Cell Therapy leadership team for managing collaboration, contractual, and resource allocation agreements.

      Primary Responsibilities

      • Establish laboratory organization and infrastructure to ensure efficient operations necessary to facilitate primary research activities of the department

      • Collaborate within Cell Therapy and across the Company (gRED, Genentech and Roche) to ensure collective leadership and seamless partnership in support of cell therapy discovery and development

      • Effectively communicate the capabilities, technologies, roles and needs of the lab/department to potential collaborators, vendors, and new group members

      • Advises on technical methods and project strategy, as necessary, and trains group members on foundational techniques to conduct relevant research

      • Demonstrate independent thought in the implementation and application of critical technologies or process improvements and address key technical challenges arising in course of cell therapy discovery or development programs

      • Readily comprehends key project needs and objectives, and delivers thorough and rigorous results through own work and that of direct reports; delegates responsibilities as appropriate

      Qualifications

      • Ph.D., Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; Ph.D. preferred

      • Demonstrated track record of fostering trust and inclusion and supporting direct reports in prioritizing and simplifying work

      • A minimum of 8 years of hand’s-on experience in a relevant field

      • A minimum of 3 years of progressively increasing level of responsibility in people leadership

      • Reputation and credibility as an emerging leader in the field, evidenced by a strong publication record or validated contributions in advancing Science

      • Extensive knowledge of modern cell and molecular biology techniques, including stem cell culture, quantitative analytical assays and relevant software tools.

      • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)

      The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $117,600-218,400. Annual Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
