      SITE DESCRIPTION

      The role is based in our new groundbreaking Discovery Centre (DISC) located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. This newly purpose-built building that will bring together the company’s research and development activity in a pioneering strategic R&D centre and global corporate headquarters. The building has been designed with the open architecture reflecting AstraZeneca’s approach to research. Open laboratories and glass walls will enable new ways of working across teams, whilst a central courtyard will put science on full display.

      What you'll do

      As a Senior Scientist, you will be a part of our B-Cell Technology Team within the Department of Biologics Engineering. Your role will involve applying and developing our single B-cell technology platforms to generate therapeutic antibody candidates. You will be instrumental in supporting the progression of diverse antibody discovery pipeline projects across various therapeutic areas.

      Essential for the role

      • PhD in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related discipline.

      • Antibody discovery expert with extensive experience & strong track record of delivery with in vivo based antibody discovery approaches (e.g. single B-cell technologies).

      • Solid knowledge of antibody sequence analysis (e.g. annotation, clustering).

      • Proficiency in designing and executing NGS library preparation protocols (including the use of 10x Genomics technology platform) for single-cell immune profiling (e.g. BCR), gene expression profiling, and ideally for spatial transcriptomics applications.

      • Proficiency in single-cell next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis methods for B-Cell Receptor Repertoire and Gene Expression profiling. Familiarity with software packages that enable immune and gene expression NGS data analysis at single cell level (e.g. Cell Ranger, MiXCR, Immcantation, Immunarch, Seurat and/or others), with the ability to extract meaningful insights from complex datasets.

      • Proven track record of innovation and problem-solving in antibody discovery, demonstrated by contributions to pipeline optimization and technology development initiatives.

      • Strong track record of general molecular biology skills & techniques (e.g. RT-PCR, Cloning (restriction enzyme and/or assembly methodologies), Sanger sequencing/analysis).

      • Strong, professional communication skills and excellent attention to detail, capable of developing good working relationships with diverse individuals.

      • Experience of complex data analysis, tracking & presentation to stakeholders.

      • Proactively develops knowledge.

      Desirable for the role

      • Experience and track-record in working with flow cytometry and/or FACS, (ideally immune cells).

      • Experience with antibody screening and characterisation methods (e.g. ELISA, HTRF, SPR, BLI).

      • Hands on experience with microfluidic systems (e.g. droplet generation, screening).

      • Knowledge of Machine Learning and ideally its implementation in antibody drug discovery would be an advantage.
