      Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. Amgen Oncology Research is seeking a highly motivated scientist to join and lead discovery research projects in the Immuno-Oncology group. We are seeking a researcher who is enthusiastic about exploring new areas of research including novel targets & technologies, being an integral member of the discovery research team, collaborating with scientists in multi-functional areas at Amgen, and contributing to Amgen’s drug development pipeline. In this vital role you will enable the discovery, validation, and mechanistic understanding of novel cancer immunotherapies for the treatment of cancer.

      Key Responsibilities:

      • Lead immuno-oncology discovery research projects (as a Biology Lead in Project Teams) and develop novel immuno-oncology therapeutics.
      • Independently design experimental strategy, execute laboratory-based experiments, analyze data, and communicate and present in team and departmental meetings.
      • Stay up to date with relevant literature and incorporate findings into program strategies as well as experimental design and implementation.
      • Publish experimental findings in top-tier journals and present at leading scientific conferences.

      Basic Qualifications:

      Doctorate degree and 2 years of immunology or oncology experience

      Or

      Master’s degree and 5 years of immunology or oncology experience

      Or

      Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of immunology or oncology experience

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Doctorate degree with postdoctoral training and research experience in the field of immunology or cancer biology.
      • Demonstrate expertise in immunology and/or cancer biology as evidenced with publications in high impact journals and/or patents.
      • Demonstrate independence and creative thinking in designing in vitro and in vivo biological studies, as well as ability to troubleshoot and solve complex problems.
      • Demonstrate technical expertise in the following areas: multi-color flow cytometry, primary immune cell culture, and genetic engineering (molecular biology).
      • Hands-on experience with mRNA-transfection-based assays and 3D complex cell-based assays for co-culture of tumor cells, T cells and myeloid cells is highly preferred.
      • Direct experience with downstream target validation by understanding oncogenic signaling pathways is a plus.
      • Direct experience with T cell-targeted therapy development (e.g. CAR-T, TCR-T, bispecific antibodies, or small molecules) is a plus.
      • Direct experience with various preclinical animal models of cancer, including design of efficacy/PD (pharmacodynamics) endpoints, and/or adoptive T cell transfer is a plus.
      • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written.
      • Effectively prioritize and implement next steps with efficient time management.

      The annual base salary range for this opportunity in South San Francisco is $132,612 - $154,758.
