Senior Scientist, Oncology TTD Target Discovery

We are seeking a highly motivated, independent Senior Scientist with a proven track record in cancer research and extensive wet-bench laboratory experience. This is your chance to join our Tumor Targeted Delivery team in Early Oncology in Gaithersburg, MD USA. As a Senior Scientist, you will lead target validation efforts for tumor-targeted therapies, such as antibody-drug-conjugates (ADCs) and targeted radio-conjugates. You will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to advance pipeline programs and deepen our understanding of all aspects of target biology.

Accountabilities:

As a Senior Scientist, you will act as target validation lead for one or more pipeline programs. You will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure the timely generation and dissemination of critical program data to enable milestone progression decisions. You will develop, design, conduct and analyze in vitro experiments using an array of biochemical, molecular and cellular biology techniques to validate new targets and dissect the mechanism of action of novel cancer therapeutics. You will remain current with relevant technical and intellectual scientific expertise in cancer biology modeling and therapeutics. The ideal candidate will be highly collegial, collaborative, data-driven, and have a passion to learn and grow.

Essential Skills/Experience:

• Ph.D. with 2+ years of experience, or M.S. with 7+ years of experience in relevant field
• Solid understanding of cell biology, molecular biology, and/or biochemistry in the context of cancer
• Strong laboratory bench skills with mammalian cell culture and molecular and cell-based experimental techniques such as flow cytometry, western blots, qPCR, ELISA, confocal and fluorescent microscopy, cell cytotoxicity assays and CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing
• Works equally well independently and in collaboration with other teams with minimal supervision
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills in a fast-paced matrix environment
• Ensures one’s own work, and the work of peers, is compliant with Good Laboratory Practice, Safety, Health, and Environment standards and all other relevant internal AstraZeneca standards and external regulations

Desirable Skills/Experience:

• Prior experience in the biopharmaceutical industry viewed favorably
• Experience with computational analysis of large data sets, such as transcriptomics or proteomics
• Knowledge of tumor-targeted therapy (e.g. ADC) biology and resistance mechanisms viewed favorably
