This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval , award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
Duties
The Substance Use Disorder Senior Social Worker is a substance use disorder(SUD) Specialist. The incumbent provides intensive case management services and psychotherapy to Veterans who are living with substance use disorder and as they transition from engagement and stabilization through programs such as Substance Abuse Recovery and Rehabilitation and Treatment Program (SARRTP), Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), Outpatient Program (OP), and Opioid Replacement Clinic (ORC). The SUD Senior Social Worker provides on-going early substance used treatment interventions,
substance use case management, intensive case management, and substance use psychotherapy to promote harm reduction to sustained abstinence.
Duties includes but not limited to the following:
The incumbent performs specialized treatment of complex physical or mental illness as it relates to substance use disorders. Incumbent incorporates complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment of Veteran patients, including making psychosocial and psychiatric diagnoses within approved scope of practice.
The incumbent expands clinical knowledge in the profession, demonstrating innovation in the creation of new models of psychosocial assessment or intervention to identify and address specialized clinical needs of substance use disorders. The incumbent writes policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines pertaining to the specialty population or specialty treatment program.
The incumbent develops and implements methods for measuring effectiveness of social work practice and services, utilizing outcome evaluations and use of evidence-based treatment modalities that are effective with Veterans who struggle with substance use disorders along with medically and psychiatrically complex conditions. Incumbent also provides specialized assessments, and treatment planning, as well as SUD consultation, to other team members to provide interventions and strategies for engagement for difficult to engage clients.
The incumbent, using a recovery model framework, independently conducts comprehensive substance use assessments and develops treatment plans in collaboration with Veteran, family, and interdisciplinary treatment team.
The incumbent will monitor e-consults, complete SUD assessments, and make recommendations to the assigned Team in addition to provide direct clinical care to Veterans struggling with SUD concerns.
The incumbent develops and maintains effective partnerships with the Gold Team Substance Abuse Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program, (SSARTP) Intensive Outpatient, Outpatient, and Opioid Replacement programs, as well as other VANTHCS teams and programs and follows leadership guidelines regarding access to VA substance abuse programs.
The incumbent develops and provides ongoing training and in-services to multidisciplinary team members in area of expertise.
The incumbent provides individual and group psychotherapeutic services to meet the Veteran's biopsychosocial needs. If the incumbent is trained in Evidence Based Psychotherapy, the incumbent uses those therapeutic modalities as appropriate to meet the Veteran's biopsychosocial needs.
In addition to the specialty SUD specific job duties listed above the incumbent is required to perform the general social worker duties required as a clinician in the Mental Health Division,
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases.
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
