Job Description

- Prepare monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reports in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
- Input, monitor and reconcile revenue from underwriting, grants, membership donations, and sponsorships.
- Assist with payroll processing and benefits accounting as needed.
- Assist with employee expense reimbursements.
- Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable as needed.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial integrity.
- Collaborate with all departments on financial matters.
- Support audits by preparing necessary documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
- Assist in grant accounting, ensuring proper tracking and reporting of funds.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of accounting systems, procedures, and internal controls.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Knowledge of accounting software platforms, Sage Intacct a plus.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
- Experience working in a nonprofit environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills for cross-department collaboration.
- Passionate about WHRO Public Media.
- Bachelor degree in accounting, finance, related field or the equivalent work experience.
- The ideal candidate would have at least five years of experience in accounting.
- Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
- Assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.

Job Summary:
The Senior Staff Accountant is a key member of the finance team, responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing monthly and annual financial reports, assisting in audits, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and public media grant and donor requirements. This position plays a critical role in supporting the financial integrity of a nonprofit public media organization dedicated to serving its community through independent journalism, education, and cultural programming.
