      The Section of Hematology/Oncology has a proud and long tradition of excellence in research-based patient care and clinical discovery. Ranked among the finest cancer programs in the country, the Section is comprised of nationally and internationally known faculty with expertise in all major types of malignancies, blood disorders, and experimental therapies.


      Job Summary

      The Senior Staff Scientist will function as a lead research expert within the Patnaik Lab in the Section of Hematology/Oncology within the Department of Medicine.

      Responsibilities

      • Designs and develops new projects and strategic directions within the translational research program.
      • Provides intellectual input and scientific leadership for research projects and lab personnel, respectively.
      • Designs, develops and tests new equipment, instruments, reagents, and/or experimental protocols for research, including wet lab methods, hardware, software, statistical methods, etc.
      • Fosters new collaborations with other researchers as appropriate.
      • Participates in the preparation and writing of grant applications and reports, and (co-)authors scientific research manuscripts.
      • Mentors/supervises other research staff.
      • Leads others to solve complex problems, providing expertise to the team which includes of scientists and clinicians from the University and nationally.
      • Provides expertise to identify protocol problems, inform investigators of problems, or assist in problem resolution efforts, such as protocol revisions. Provides expertise to evaluate factors such as sample collection processes, data management plans, or potential subject risks.
      • Performs other related work as needed.

      Education:

      Minimum requirements include a PhD in related field.
