- Teaches Swim Lessons for all ages and levels.
- Helps instruct community groups coming in for swim lessons.
- Monitors and helps evaluate classes and swimmers when not teaching.
- Lifeguards' non-swim lesson times
- Responsible for ensuring the safety of patrons by monitoring swimmer safety and preventing and responding to emergencies in the pool area during swim lessons, open, and lap swimming.
- Assisting with entry-level swim team practice
- Attends staff training and participates in agency committees.
- Pursues professional development.
- Understands and adheres to all YWCA Evanston/North Shore procedures and policies as well as YWCA Employee Handbook.
- Back up/assist other instructors and lifeguards when necessary.
- Understands and follows all appropriate Illinois and National safety procedures and policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management, which may include maintenance/cleaning.
- At least 4 years of experience developing swim skills for all levels.
- At least one year of experience in lifeguarding
- At least one year of experience assisting with coaching entry-level competitive swimming.
- Tolerance of prolonged and continuous time in water, whether hot or cold.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, climb stairs, reach with hands and arms, and reach above shoulders.
- Occasionally required to push, pull, lift, and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Must be able to move about the facility.
- Must be able to operate controls for computers and other equipment.
- Employees may be required to share workspace.
- Employees will, on occasion, have meetings or work in other buildings.
Description
This position is located in Evanston, Illinois.
This Senior Swim Instructor contributes to the creation of a warm and welcoming environment for a diverse community of swimmers and is responsible for teaching swim lessons and assisting with the operations of the YWCA Evanston/North Shore Learn-to-Swim program, lifeguards, and assisting with early swim team levels of the Flying Fish.

Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Some high school
Experience and/or Training: At least 2 years of experience developing swimming skills for all levels.
Licenses/Certificates: Red Cross Lifeguard and CPR certified
Technology/Equipment: Intermediate proficiency with swim equipment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience and/or Training:
Language: Bilingual Spanish
Technology/Equipment: Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS
Intermittent (less than 15%), Occasional (15-45%), Frequent (50-75%), and Continuous (over 75%).
