Lead Pratt & Whitney’s Weld Council which consists of all welding subject matter experts across Pratt & Whitney worldwide manufacturing sites; lead resolution of systemic quality and production issues associated with welding / joining processes across all Pratt & Whitney products produced internally and externally at a supplier site
Own the technology roadmap and strategic plans to advance process capability and incorporate key operational excellence initiatives including Design for Manufacturability, Engineered Processes, Process Control, Integrated Quality Validation, Lean, Automation and Industry 4.0; drive integration for Pratt & Whitney’s product development and validation organizations to align design requirements with internal and external manufacturing capability
Own the welding & joining process level Process Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and linkage to product level PFMEA’s driving implementation of best practices using systematic process control methods; own welding & joining discipline proficiency, discipline curriculum
Develop talent by developing and teaching welding related training courses and directly mentoring engineers
Drive integration of Model Based Definition, Manufacturing & Inspection elements, and process modeling of weld features to support Pratt & Whitney’s model based Digital Thread initiative
Be the key change agent for the implementation of emerging technologies and emerging company business strategy such as conducting MRL & TRL progression gate reviews, industry 4.0 mapping, Intellectual Property & Patents, and equipment standardization initiatives; contribute to RTX Aerospace technology, industry forums and university collaborations to keep abreast of emerging technology trends & influence future technical direction; develop and maintain welding & joining related technical documents including engineering/quality specifications and manufacturing standard operation procedures
Bachelor’s Degree in Welding Engineering or equivalent field and minimum 14 years' experience in an aerospace or production environment or a master’s degree in Welding Engineering or equivalent field and minimum 12 years' experience in an aerospace or production environment
Experience with team building and interacting within all levels of an organization
Prior experience teaching and mentoring staff at various levels of an organization
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract
Travel required (
Master's Degree or Doctoral Degree in Welding Engineering
Certification in handling process variation such as Six Sigma or Lean process
Prior experience leading the welding discipline in a large corporation with multiple manufacturing sites and a large supplier base

Summary:
Welding & joining is a key enabler for Pratt & Whitney’s dependable engines. The Welding & Joining Senior Technical Fellow will be the voice of the welding & joining discipline. The Welding & Joining Senior Technical Fellow will ensure the manufacturing process capability and control are key considerations to product design requirements and best practices are used in production to yield quality products with lowest cost.
This role is key to Pratt & Whitney’s operational transformation. You will be directly impacting product safety, performance, quality, delivery, and cost. This role will have direct linkage to pervasive lean, process control, automation, new technologies, and Industry 4.0.
