Continuing full-time position
Fantastic opportunity to play a key part in supporting the activities of the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology in the areas of chemistry, chemical analytical facilities, chemical lifecycle and chemical waste management. The team supports undergraduate and postgraduate education, training and research with both national relevance and global outreach and networks in the public and private sectors.
The Technical Services Team delivers outstanding support to students, academics and researchers for enhancing education and research output. The Technical Services Team provides a platform for collaboration across the University, broad industry involvement and community engagement through focused customer service based on exceptional personnel skills and expertise. The Technical Services Team works closely with Academics and professional teams as well as the Infrastructure Branch to ensure efficient utilisation of teaching, office, workshop and laboratory space. Being committed to Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) values, the team manages safe operations across the Faculty labs and workshops.
Senior Technical Officer will manage the Faculty’s teaching laboratory’s facilities and is responsible to deliver practicals, order consumables, maintain equipment and collate accurate records of all infrastructure and assets. This position will work collaboratively with the course coordinator(s) to implement and conduct teaching activities. In addition, the position will provide technical support services to Faculty’s research staff and students as required. The Senior Technical Officer also ensures compliance with Health, Safety and Wellbeing and legislative requirements.
To be successful you will need:
1. Demonstrated knowledge of chemistry and/or experience working in a chemistry teaching laboratory.
2. Experience and skills in operating, maintaining and managing relevant laboratory equipment and analytical instruments.
3. Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritise and organise work to achieve goals and meet deadlines, including dealing with competing demands.
4. Ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment, think creatively and laterally exercise initiative.
5. An understanding of HSW requirements, with demonstrated experience in workplace compliance and developing risk assessments and safe work practices
6. Demonstrated ability to promote the organisational values of integrity, respect, collegiality, excellence and discovery, and a commitment to positively comply with the associated behaviour expectations.
Qualification/s:
• Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or related field with subsequent relevant laboratory technician experience
• Extensive experience and specialist expertise or broad knowledge in Chemistry or related field; or
• An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
