      The Senior Underwriter, Commercial Real Estate is an exciting and rewarding opportunity! The reward is in the details, and overall, this person analyzes and underwrites new commercial mortgage loan opportunities, equity investments, and other commercial real estate and mortgage-related investments. This person develops credit-based recommendations for various commercial mortgage loan and real estate investment opportunities, assesses risks, and determines appropriate risk ratings for new commercial mortgage and real estate investments.



      Responsibilities

      • Prepare credit presentations detailing new commercial mortgage loan opportunities with recommendations supported by the specifics of the real estate securing the loan, the property’s income characteristics, market and submarket analysis, and the underwriting characteristics of the loan.
      • Work closely with the real estate investment management and real estate department’s regional managers regarding RGA’s credit and yield requirements and coordinate with RGA’s legal team to ensure that RGA’s interests are protected.
      • Review appraisals, property condition reports, environmental reports, leases, rent rolls, operating statements, borrower organizational documents, tenant and borrower financial statements and structure loans appropriately based on conclusions and findings of the review.
      • Work with VP of Credit Risk Management in interactions with closers and RGA’s internal and external legal counsel to ensure that loans meet regulatory requirements and are closed as approved.
      • Develop and maintain relationships with mortgage bankers, brokers and borrowers to ensure on-going repeat business to support RGA’s allocation to commercial mortgage loans.
      • Develop appropriate loan ratings based on the credit characteristics of each loan in support of evaluating loans for potential losses and determining an appropriate market value. Work with RGA’s internal and external auditors, as appropriate, to detail the basis for RGA’s quality ratings and loan loss reserves.
      • Develop resolution strategies for problem loans and negotiate with borrowers and attorneys to implement resolution plans. Work with internal and external counsel when foreclosure is necessary.
      • Assist VP Portfolio Management in evaluating the credit quality of commercial mortgage loan portfolios under consideration for purchase in relation to the acquisition of future reinsurance business for RGA.


      Requirements

      Education and Experience

      Required:

      • BS in business, economics, finance or equivalent experience
      • Progress towards the CFA, MAI, CCIM or related professional designation
      • 4-6 years of Real Estate or other investment-related experience

      Preferred:

      • Master’s in Business Administration, Real Estate, or Finance
      • CFA or CCIM
      • Prior experience analyzing CMBS or other Real-Estate related structured securities
      • Prior experience working in investment management for insurance client assets

      Skills and Abilities

      Required:

      • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills
      • Understanding of Commercial Real Estate investments
      • Understanding of asset / liability management for insurance products
      • Intermediate skill in the use of investment analysis tools as well as personal computer tools including spreadsheets and word processing tools
      • Knowledge of broad business practices
      • Ability in implementing change within an organization, ensuring understanding, participation, and ownership
      • Advanced oral and written communication skills including presentation skills, demonstrating the ability to convey information in a way that is meaningful and well received by stakeholders and team members
      • Advanced ability to adapt new methods; work under tight deadlines and stressful conditions
      • Advanced skills in managing multiple projects and/or sub-teams simultaneously
      • Advanced ability to make timely and effective decisions and produce results
      • Advanced ability to implement organizational, divisional and/or departmental vision and goals that result in achievement and success through collaboration, creative thinking, maintaining focus, and persistence, even under adversity, while maintaining the confidence of associates and customers
      • Ability to work well within a team

      State of Colorado: This information is provided per the Colorado Equal Pay Act. The pay range for this position in Colorado is $117,440-1588,910 per year. Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location.
