  Job Description Summary:

  Analyzes and assumes large group renewal and new business risk on behalf of Blue KC for both fully-insured and self-insured clients with stop loss. Post-risk evaluation, collaborates closely with: internal sales, large group employer’s, and brokers/consultants to develop strategies and solutions to meet employers needs while simultaneously balancing Blue KC’s operational goals. Serves as a resource for less experienced underwriters in rating decisions and enhancing understanding of Underwriting principles.

  Job Description

  • Underwrite commercial large group renewals and prospective customers. This includes data review, network analysis, and application of target pricing methodology.
  • Develops and builds strong relationships with sales team and external agents to support the understanding and communication of rating decisions to accounts.
  • Collaborate and negotiate with internal/external partners regarding price, contractual terms, and/or guarantees.
  • Responsible for coordinating answers to financial aspects to RFP responses.
  • Accountable for timely & accurate analysis and strategy development. This includes various benefit design, network selection, and funding option alternatives to meet the needs of both the account and Blue KC.
  • Applies sound underwriting methodology to assess rate relationships, employer contribution strategy, purchasing habits, Industry factors, claims data to determine pricing and protect against adverse selection. Must be able to model self-funded and fully insured funding arrangements.
  • Execute contracts, amendments, guarantees, and benefit package paperwork on proposals and renewals.
  • Inputs data tracking and performs information reporting, both standard and ad hoc. Responsible for information collection and reporting of defined data elements.
  • Calculates, analyzes and provides accurate settlements on the variety of alternate funded accounts.
    

  Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Math, Finance, Economics, Business, or other relevant field.
  • 5+ years' of group healthcare underwriting experience including fully insured and self-insured. Stop Loss rating experience preferred.

  Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA preferred.
  • Underwriting certification by HIAA, LOMA, or RHU is preferred
