Ability to qualify and underwrite non-standard or difficult to place risks
Perform underwriting due diligence on new MGA opportunities against the Aviva MGA appetite & framework, reviewing underwriting methodology, guidelines, processes, pricing structure, coverage terms and wordings
MGA portfolio steering, including analysis, development of recommendations for profit measures, identification of potential contract enhancements or controls, and general recommendations for improvements in the MGA partnerships
Provide underwriting support for existing MGAs, including underwriting audits (virtual and in person), risk referrals and wording reviews to maintain profitable relationships within the context of Aviva risk and control practices
Collaborate with multiple internal stakeholders to draft and update MGA contracts, achieve compliance goals, and ensure sufficient risk and controls in place
Participate and/or lead quarterly business review with an MGA’s leadership and underwriting teams
Ability to navigate Aviva (internally) to get things done
Ability to build positive relationships and collaborate, within the MGA team, Aviva as a whole and with our MGA partners
University degree or college diploma in Insurance would be an advantage
CIP (or enrolled)
5 plus years of technical commercial lines underwriting business experience
Very strong marketing and relationship building skills with internal and external partners; strong pipeline management/sales consultation skills
Proficient technical knowledge of complex risks in line of business and segments underwritten
Developing proficiency in applying highly specialized knowledge and expertise to non-standard risks
Ability to identify and articulate barriers in workflows or specific accounts with leadership
Excellent written/verbal communication skills
Ability to problem solve and to make/implement decisions
Strong leadership, negotiation and influencing skills
Professional and collaborative attitude
Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment
Functioning knowledge of French is an asset

Aviva has an excellent career opportunity in our Managing General Agent (MGA) underwriting team for a Property and Casualty Underwriter. Your focus and responsibility will be to support existing MGA growth and profitability by establishing strong relationships with MGA underwriters and management through meetings, referrals, audits, as well as contract management. In addition, you will participate in the decision-making process and oversee the onboarding of new MGA partners. You will work closely with underwriting specialists and senior management in GCS. The role will be client facing under a national mandate to support our MGA partners in all provinces by providing superior technical expertise.
You must be able to operate at both a macro and micro level in support of our MGA partners while achieving the department’s business objectives. The ability to navigate internal stakeholders and external MGA to get things done with a high level of energy and teamwork is required to ensure success. This position will report into the MGA Leader.
