What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Lead the review and development of water permitting applications for the Hanford Site State Waste Discharge Permits
- Serve as the section expert on state and federal water quality regulations
- Represent the Nuclear Waste Program in meetings with various stakeholders, including the U.S. Department of Energy and external interest groups
- Conduct independent reviews of water quality permit applications and permits
- Negotiate permit conditions and develop final decision documents for permit issuance
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Nine (9) years of experience in environmental-based work or related duties
- Demonstrated competence in critical/analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Experience in evaluating technical environmental data and writing permits and compliance reports
- Education in environmental, physical, or natural sciences; environmental planning; or a closely related field
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet U.S. Department of Energy requirements for site access
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience in wastewater and dangerous/RCRA/mixed waste permitting or compliance
- Additional education, such as a Master's degree or Ph.D. in a relevant field
