- Collaborate with program IPT counterparts to develop supporting systems engineering and design artifacts.
- Work with both technical teams and stakeholders to develop and mature architecture content of large programs design.
- Help develop and incorporate the appropriate requirements for the system and ensure that they are properly represented in the model.
- Develop systems architecture using Cameo Enterprise Architecture (behavioral, structural, analytical).
- Contribute to system requirements development, management, and analysis.
- Develop unifying model techniques, procedures, and processes (for model development, tool integration)
- Author/support the development of requirements that are compliant with Human Factors best practices and specified sections of MIL-STD-1472G
- Human Factors Analyses (including, but not limited to: task analyses, predictive workload analyses, interface prototyping and analysis, and design-for-maintainability (DFM) analysis)
- Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications
- Conduct computer-based (NX) and empirical accessibility assessments
- Author/support the program documentation of the HFE processes and products in a format consistent with US Military Data Item Descriptions (e.g. Human Engineering Program Plan, Human Engineering Design Approach Document – Operator, Human Engineering Design Approach Document – Maintainer, Human Engineering Test Plan, Human Engineering Test Report, etc.)
- Cross-IPT Collaboration
- Design and develop workstation geometry and layout controls and displays to accommodate the full anthropometric range of expected users.
- 5 years of experience in Human Factors or an applicable field with a BS Degree, or 3 years of experience with a Master's
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present to segment, program and customer community
- Educational background in psychology, human factors, user experience, graphic design, industrial design, or HCI-related field from an accredited university, and at least 5 years of related experience; OR at least 3 Years of relevant experience with a master’s degree; OR a PhD degree
- Active Secret clearance with an investigation date in the last 6 years; Must have the ability to obtain special program access
- Large scale / complex system development experience across multiple phases of a development program: preliminary design, detailed design, integration and test, verification and sell off, transition to production.
- Experience with implementing and using model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools, practices, and methods.
- Strong understanding and broad application of complex engineering systems (engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.) for the development of complex systems of systems.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations, with ability to focus on multiple projects with competing priorities.
- Ability to build software prototypes for usability testing of candidate designs
- Experience with visual design of computer user interfaces
- Human Factors, Psychology or similar degree
- Experience with Human Factors in a defense contracting environment (familiarity with Mil-Std-1472G and ANSI/HFES 100-2007), DoD UI/UX Design Experience
- Experience with Axure wireframing/prototyping software
- Experience on an Agile Software Development Team
- Demonstrated experience with prototyping/wireframing tools

The Sentinel program has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Human Factors Engineer (HFE) - Systems Engineer to join the team in Huntsville, Alabama supporting activities including use case development, requirements definition / allocation, functional decomposition, interface definition, verification & validation, and requirements traceability.
Specific duties to include, but are not limited to the following:
Human Factors (HF) specializations include software (UX, human computer interaction), hardware (human factors, anthropometry), HF computer modeling (NX/Jack, IMPRINT), or design for maintainability (prior experience as a maintainer or experience working in the area).
The selected candidate’s job responsibilities include design documentation including interface specifications; hardware and software interface design/development support; analyses and collaboration to facilitate equipment selection, design and arrangement; user group collaboration and working groups; compliance with specified sections of MIL-STD-1472G; collaboration across IPTs; and coordination with the customer and user community.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

Salary Range: $95,400.00 - $148,000.00 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
