  • Job Description

      • Reporting to the Lieutenants, the Sergeant may serve as the Watch Commander in the absence of a Lieutenant.
      • The Sergeant is responsible for direct field supervision and performance evaluation of campus patrol officers; providing necessary support for improvement; patrolling campus and Chapman owned property; approving written reports of officers assigned to their shift; ensuring all equipment is accounted for at the beginning and end of their shift, notification of appropriate personnel during emergency situations.
      • The Sergeant may also coordinate with OPD, Irvine PD, or Anaheim PD in conducting investigations originating from the Department of Public Safety (DPS) reports.
      • The duties may also include threat assessments and coordination with federal, state, and local authorities and resources in conducting assessments.
      • As needed, they may assist in coordinating with university constituents in the preparation of operation plans for special events, visiting dignitaries, etc.
      • Must have and maintain in good standings, a valid California Driver’s License. DMV record check required before and during employment. Continued employment subject to satisfactory DMV records review.
      • Employment subject to satisfactory completion of background check.
      • Must have access to telephone or pager such that a message will be received at home in the event of an emergency.
      • May be required to respond to campus during non-scheduled hours in the event of an emergency.
      • Must have successfully completed a California POST PC 832 training class and possess and keep current, a California Consumer Affairs Guard Card and Baton Permit.
      • Must Possess current first aid and CPR certification and OC/Pepper Spray Certification. Minimum age requirement is 21 years.
      • Employee must wear and maintain the regulation uniform supplied by the department.
      • Appearance standards must be maintained within the general policies established by the Chief of Public Safety.
      • The position requires a willingness to work outdoors in all types of weather.
      • The department runs a 24-hour operation and the employee may be assigned to any available shift or rotating shifts.
