      Job Summary:

      Responsible for the coordination of operations and financial management of designated Newton-Wellesley Hospital (NWH) and Newton-Wellesley Medical Group (NWMG) physician practices and clinics, including employed and contracted surgeons and staff. The Service Line Manager works collaboratively with NWH/NWMG administrative and clinical leadership to develop and achieve quality, experience, safety, strategy and leadership goals and objectives.

      Essential Functions:

      • Ensure that care delivery is in accordance with the NWH mission – to treat and care for all our patients and their families as we would a beloved family member. Ensure patient experience data is effectively used to continually improve the patient’s perception of care in our medical clinics and practices.
      • Manage and develop Practice Manager direct reports in NWH/NWMG physician practices/clinics and ensure alignment of goals between hospital and practice sites. Support Practice Managers in developing and documenting clear clinic workflows and performance expectations.
      • Develop collaborative working relationships with Division Chiefs, Nursing, and Administrative leadership to create a shared accountability model for service line performance and growth.

      • Help foster an open and transparent organization culture that recognizes, celebrates, and rewards both individual and team accomplishment.

      • Promote a team-based practice environment where all staff work to the level of their license and/or training and demonstrate a commitment to a patient centered care model.

      • Work with Administrative Directors, Practice Managers, Medical Directors, Chiefs and Nursing leadership in an ongoing effort to improve quality of care through process redesign work. Work to create a culture of patient safety within each practice/clinic.

      • Assist each physician practice/clinic in enhancing work flows and processes for Epic and business systems to achieve high levels of standardization and efficiency.
      • Work with Facilities and Public Safety to ensure proper functioning of leased spaces and hospital assigned spaces. Ensure all workers have adequate workspace.
      • Work with NWH/NWMG Administrative and Clinical leadership to develop and administer physician compensation plans for designated employed physicians.
      • Monitor provider productivity targets and goals – working collaboratively with clinical leadership and individual physicians to achieve them.
      • With assistance from Financial team, prepare financial reports, data analyses, and dashboards. Distribute to Clinical and Administrative leadership, and review with site leadership/MDs monthly. Manage financial performance, including revenue cycle, of all designated sites through monthly budget variance reports.
      • Work to improve operating efficiency at sites as needed to meet or exceed budget projections.
      • Prepare annual operating and capital budgets for designated sites.
      • Bring any site capital requests to Director for review and approval.
      • Review/sign-off on all RFPs from sites, forward to Director for review.
      • Work with Chair/Chief, Director, and Medical Director in overall service line planning as well as in physician transition and recruitment planning. Responsible for preparing business plans and projected profit and loss statements as needed for new initiatives.
      • Oversee departmental physician and APP onboarding in conjunction with Physician Experience Liaison and Department of Surgery Executive Assistant. This includes filing for credentialing, CRICO coverage and Payer Paperwork when necessary for incoming Physicians and APPs.
      • Develop, mentor, and direct practice managers by developing clear job descriptions, reporting relationships, procedures, and standards. Assist and guide Practice Managers in all personnel-related issues, benefits administrations, etc. for office staff in conjunction with the NWH HR department.
      • Provide day to day problem solving with staff and physicians at designated NWH/NWMG sites.
      • Serve as liaison to Mass General Brigham entities for clinical relationships at designated sites and prepares quarterly financial reconciliations. Facilitates communication between practices, NWH/NWMG leadership, and Mass General Brigham entities, as necessary.
      • Develop necessary site policies and procedures, and ensure the conformance of the sites to all OSHA, compliance and HIPAA, licensing, and accreditation requirements as directed by the federal and state mandates. Work with sites to meet JCAHO and DPH licensure requirements as appropriate.
      • Coordinate and develop educational programs with office staff as needed.
      • Serve on various committees as needed.
      • All other duties as assigned by Executive, Clinical and Administrative leadership.

      Qualifications: Minimum of five years of healthcare experience combined with bachelor’s degree required. Physician practice management experience preferred. Graduate of MBA, MHA or MPH program preferred. Lean, Six Sigma, Project Management training preferred.

      Skills and Abilities: Must be able to work independently, develop, analyze & report financial data, and recruit, hire, retain, develop, and manage staff. Knowledge of physician compensation plans is essential. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to partner and work collaboratively with clinical and administrative leadership, physician staff, and practice staff is required.

      Supervisor Responsibility: Practice managers from various NWH/NWMG sites will report directly to this position.
