- Plans, organizes, assigns and evaluates the work of clerical, maintenance, and other support services personnel in the provision of services required at a Juvenile Hall, Camp Operations, or Food Services.
- Manages the support services operations with direct oversight at a Probation Department Juvenile Hall, Camp Operation or Food Services.
- Analyze internal processes and recommend and implement procedural or policy changes to improve operations.
- Participates with departmental contract services personnel in the development of specifications and cost estimates for Juvenile Hall, Camp Operations or Food Services operations or functions selected for contracting out.
- Assists in the preparation, maintenance, and control of the modification and improvements of budget for a Juvenile Hall, Camp Operations or Food Services and directs the preparation of monthly budgetary status reports.
- Monitors services provided by outside clerical, maintenance, and contractors to ensure that quality and quantity standards and other contract terms are met in a timely manner.
- Serves as on-site liaison with outside clerical, maintenance and contractor personnel, communicates departmental and facility expectations and requirements, and resolves problems.
- Inspects facility grounds, buildings, and equipment to ensure that support services meet the needs and standards of the institution; takes appropriate action to correct deficiencies.
- Supervises the requisition, maintenance, and issuance of supplies and equipment.
- Oversees, through subordinate supervisors, the laundering of large volumes of linen and clothing as well as clothing repair; ensures conformity with health department standards.
- Oversees the activities of personnel responsible for the receipt, safekeeping, routing, and maintenance of accurate records for youth's personal property for youths detained at a Juvenile Hall or Camp.
- Monitors, through subordinate supervisors, the custodial, housekeeping, and
groundskeeping activities and operations required at a Juvenile Hall facility or Camp. - Ensures institutional compliance with applicable fire, health, and safety laws and regulations.
- Utilizes automated computer systems and software such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, and excel in order to respond to inquiries and maintained documentations.
- Commutes on as needed basis to various camps/halls located throughout the county.
- Experience managing and overseeing infrastructure repair and/or projects which includes planning, scheduling, and coordinating projects activities. (e.g., building maintenance, remodeling, community correction initiatives, vendors, contractor, furniture procurement, review and/or approve modification project plans, obtain quotes, etc.)
- Experience in establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with contractors, vendors, and other internal and external agencies to determine project requirements and objectives.
- Experience utilizing complex work order systems for authorizing, maintaining, and tracking service requests, such as maintenance, repairs, inventory, and storage of property and supplies.
- Experience utilizing accounting and purchasing systems with processing orders, invoices, and payments, and verifying commodities related to food supplies and kitchen supplies (e.g., paper goods, cleaning supplies, etc.).

SPECIAL SALARY INFORMATION:
Management Appraisal of Performance Plan (MAPP): This position is subject to the provisions of the Management Appraisal of Performance Plan (MAPP). Initial salary placement and subsequent salary adjustments will be made in accordance with MAPP guidelines and regulations.DEFINITION:
Manages the support services operations at a Probation Department Juvenile Facility.
CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS:
Positions allocable to this class report to the Administrative Services Division Manager in charge and are responsible for planning, organizing, assigning, and evaluating the activities of a large clerical and support staff, some of whom are assigned to functions performed up to three shifts a day, seven days a week. Incumbents must exercise a broad knowledge of County administrative policies, practices and procedures, including the requirements for the development of specifications and cost estimates on operations or processes selected for contracting out and obtaining construction, maintenance, and repair services provided by other county departments. These positions also exercise a general knowledge of the provision of such general services as housekeeping, laundry, sewing, warehousing, property storage and safekeeping, groundskeeping, custodial, barbering, and food production at a Probation Department Juvenile Facility. Additionally, such positions require the application of an extensive knowledge of the California Youth Authority Regulations, and local health and fire department standards and regulations.
OPTION I: Three years of experience in a general administrative* or staff capacity** analyzing and making recommendations for the solution of problems of organization, systems or procedures, program facilities planning, budget, or personnel.
OPTION II: One year of experience as an Administrative Assistant II***.
OPTION III: Three years of experience directing the activities of a staff of 35 or more employees engaged in providing comprehensive, non-professional services, such as housekeeping, protection and patrol, and custodial services at a County hospital or detention facility.
LICENSE:
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
PHYSICAL CLASS:
2 - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
*Administrative capacity in the County of Los Angeles is defined as experience performing work typically in an administrative services branch of an organizational unit, including responsibility for the development of procedures and participation in policy formulation. Experience at the level of independent responsibility for assignments of average difficulty analyzing and making recommendations for the solution of problems of organization, budget, personnel, information services, programs, facilities planning, materials management, and general management.
**Staff capacity in the County of Los Angeles is defined as experience working in an advisory capacity to line managers to provide program and administrative support which includes assisting and supporting administration by doing research, analysis, and making recommendations to line managers on matters such as utilization of personnel, allocation of funds, workload and workload fluctuations, and programs and procedures for accomplishing work objectives. Works under general supervision of the line or division manager.
***To qualify, applicants must have County Status in the specified class, as evidenced by holding or having held such payroll title in the service of Los Angeles County for the required amount of time in order to qualify. NO-OUT-OF CLASS WILL BE ALLOWED FOR THIS EXAMINATION.

This examination will consist of an Evaluation of Experience based upon the application information, desirable qualifications and supplemental questionnaire weighted 100%.
Candidates who do not achieve a passing score on the Evaluation of Experience will be notified by mail or email. SCORES CANNOT BE GIVEN OVER THE PHONE.
Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on each weighted test part in order to be placed on the eligible list.
ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION
The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible list in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.
No person may compete in this examination more than once every twelve (12) months.
