- In accordance with California law, the expected salary range for this position is posted with this position. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
- Assist in the planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the TSC during the shift.
- Coordinate morning routine by ensuring residents are awake on time and dressed appropriately for the day.
- Prepares and oversees the staffing assignment for each shift to ensure that the health and safety needs of the residents are met and to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements are met with regard to staffing ratios.
- Coordinates and supervises the staffing for the shift and assists with morning coverage as needed.
- Ensures that all paperwork and documents are available to all milieu counselors prior to their shift.
- Effectively supervises, evaluates and directs the work of a diverse group of employees. Timely completion of performance appraisals, regular supervisory meetings, performance documentation, staff development and supervision for success best practices. Manages personnel functions including recruiting, hiring, and retaining staff.
- Complete Records of Discussions with milieu counselors under the approval of the Assistant Director to ensure that all staff concerns are met and policies and procedures are properly implemented.
- Prepares and oversees the assignment of residents to milieu counselors.
- Ensures that staff follow all the established policies and procedures, childcare procedures, and safety regulations.
- Provides group and individual trainings and in-services, as appropriate, to ensure that all staff on the shift are well trained and meeting their mandatory required hours of training per regulations.
- Maintains communication with the Assistant Director and the Director of Transitional Shelter Program.
- Meets with the NOC Shift Supervisor on a daily basis before the end of his/her shift to communicate regarding the activities.
- Coordinate and assist with daily living skills instruction (tooth brushing, showering, dressing, and bed-making, toilet training, eating, laundry, kitchen, etc.).
- Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent resident case information to assure resident's rights are protected.
- Follows weekly schedule of planned activities.
- Provides residents with opportunities to make choices either by signing, picture cues, partial physical assistance, or total physical assistance.
- Maintain logs on residents regarding behavior or incidents for communication with Department of Child and Family Services, shelter staff, and other Junior Blind departments.
- Documentation/record keeping in children’s files including meal charting.
- Attends staff meetings, in-service training, and other agency/program meetings as scheduled.
- Helps organize/decorate TSC for special occasions, i.e., Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, etc.
- Follows instructional plans as indicated by supervisor.
- Assist Milieu Counselors with residents when needed or as time permits.
- Assures the resident’s environment is safe and sanitary.
- Reports any unusual incidents/accidents immediately to the Supervisor, both verbally and in writing.
- Promotes the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) process by identifying quality indicators and opportunities for departmental and organizational process improvement.
- Perform other related duties as may become necessary or as director by the Assistant Director
- The number one responsibility is to the residents. Residents that are awake when the staff come on shift are to be assisted until they go to sleep.
- Coordinate staff to perform regular checks on residents and document 15-minute rounds.
- Staff are not to lay down or sleep, even if they are taking a break. This will be cause for immediate termination. Using blankets and pillows while sitting is not allowed.
- B.A. degree from accredited college/university in child development, special education, psychology, or related field. Education may be waived in lieu of appropriate experience.
- Valid California driver's license and eligibility to drive agency vehicles, unless disabled.
- Must be 21 years of age to drive agency vehicles.
- Good communication skills, particularly written and oral.
- Ability to function as team member and follow through on recommendations from professional staff.

Role Summary:
Provide direct care for transitional shelter children and youth ages 0-17. Job emphasis is centered on the resident’s adjust and stabilize to shelter environment and transition to community settings. Focus is on developing daily living skills, socialization, independence, behavior management and pre-vocational skills. This is a non-exempt position reports to a member of the Assistant Director of Transitional Shelter Care Program.
Shift: 9pm-7am Sunday-Wednesday or Wednesday- Saturday
