      OVERVIEW

      This position is responsible for coordinating the shipment of company goods as directed by the Shipping Supervisor. Typical duties include processing orders for shipping, pulling, wrapping and banding products, counting and maintaining accurate records and entering information into computer system. Preparation of shipping documents for export and domestic shipments. Application of knowledge of domestic and international shipping guidelines regarding packing, loading, and transporting. Contacting carriers to arrange for merchandise pick up, gather freight quotes and rates, shipment status, expediting and tracking. Communication with dealers and internal departments; operation of computer systems and other similar duties to related to storing and shipping the company’s products and materials.

      WHAT YOU'LL DO:

      • Creates bills of lading in computerized shipping system adhering to customers’ routing instructions.
      • Schedules pickups with LTL, TL and parcel carriers
      • Provides estimated shipping rates to customer service and customers.
      • Negotiates spot quotes with carriers for outbound shipments.
      • Sends and receives shipping quotes with logistics providers.
      • Completes domestic and international shipping documents and labels and records shipment transactions in SAP or other shipping tracking system.
      • Performs inventory counts of the shipping and receiving areas, and other areas as needed.
      • Updates paper and electronic records for tracking, inclusive of SAP transactions.
      • Interfaces daily with carriers, brokers, customers, and customer service, production and receiving staff to schedule pickups, troubleshoot and provide order information.
      • Provides proof of shipment or delivery to customer service on request.
      • Communicates order information to Internal and External customers, including shipping quotes, delivery dates and timing, order resolution requests, inventory and other shipping related items.
      • Reroutes shipments when requested by customer service.
      • Completes shipping orders received from Shipping Supervisor, reviews information on Pick and Pack Lists to ensure accuracy. Contacts Sales or other departments as needed to resolve shipping issues.
      • Audits carrier invoices and submits for management approval.
      • Maintains log of outbound LTL shipments.
      • Performs additional duties and projects as assigned by the Shipping Team Leader.
      • Records weights and dimensions of products. Enters pertinent data into the computer system.
      • Moves containers for shipment from warehouse to trucks.
      • Assists Receiving and other departments on extraneous material movements and non- inventory shipments.
      • Actively supports Pelican’s commitment to Quality and all quality objectives, with an emphasis on continual improvement.
      • Picks and packs inventory according to customer orders. Selects cartons and containers to use in shipping order considering order size and bulk. Wraps and Bands products for optimal protection and shipping transport.
      • Follows company policies and practices as outlined in the Employee Handbook and/or applicable employment agreement. Follows safety guidelines and procedures in accordance with the job.
      • Performs additional duties as assigned.

      WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

      • High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
      • Four year’s shipping experience in a warehouse and/or factory environment.
      • Must possess a good knowledge of shipping documentation and department procedures, such as picking and packing procedures, inventory procedures, and cycle counting.
      • Must have very good math skills.
      • Must be able to follow documented work procedures.
      • Excellent organizational, communication (written and verbal) and time management skills.
      • Strong attention to detail and data entry skills. Basic ability to set up spreadsheets and reports using Microsoft Excel and Word.
      • Must be qualified to operate a stand-up forklift and pass exam during initial probationary period.

      PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

      • Six year’s shipping experience in a warehouse and/or factory environment.
      • Good understanding of international customs requirements.
      • Working knowledge of SAP or a similar ERP system.
      • Domestic and international shipping experience.
      • Working knowledge of Lean and/or Six Sigma principals.
      • Experience working in an ISO regulated work environment.

      • Must have the ability to complete assignments within the timeframe specified by the Supervisor / Manager.
      • Must be flexible regarding working hours and overtime. Must be able to work overtime on evenings and weekends, with or without advanced notice.
      • Must be able to operate in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.

      PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

      • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be constantly required to execute standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers).
      • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be occasionally required to execute non-standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch).
      • Ability to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
      • This position requires repetitive hand/wrist activities.
