      Project-Based Role: This is a project based role with an anticipated duration of 12+ months

      Location: Los Angeles, CA

      Compensation:

      The base salary for this position starts at $85,000.

      Job Summary:

      Audio Design is one of the creative mediums that Meow Wolf utilizes to tell stories, create a sense of setting, and to intrigue patrons. This is achieved using various techniques from the very subtle to the very overt. The Show Audio Designer position will oversee audio creative intent development for assigned Meow Wolf projects under the guidance of a Senior Show Audio Designer. This includes driving design and review of audio creative intent for Meow Wolf exhibitions, events, traveling exhibits/shows, and other special projects. Additionally, this position will guide mixing and integration of audio content to make sure it meets creative intent, and be a touch point for creative direction, artists, and stakeholders to make sure the audio experience matches expectations.


      Key Responsibilities:

      • Collaborate with key stakeholders to define, guide development of, and document creative intent for Show Audio in assigned projects.
      • Collaborate with key stakeholders to define, guide design of, and document guest experience as it relates to Show Audio in assigned projects.
      • Collaborate with key stakeholders and Show Audio Engineer to guide and verify placement of speakers, subwoofers, and other in exhibition audio hardware to support creative intent.
      • Research cutting edge creative techniques, tools, and equipment to better support creative designs.
      • Drive Show Audio deliverables for an assigned Meow Wolf project.
      • Curate, guide the creation of, and organize audio content for an assigned Meow Wolf Project.
      • Install, integrate, mix, and quality control of audio content in exhibitions.
      • Research, vet, and establish relationships with industry vendors, sound designers, and other collaborators for contract work.
      • Guide the development of spatial design narratives, audio interactivity matrix design, and other non-traditional audio experiences for an assigned Meow Wolf project.
      • Load, mix and drive installation of content for each assigned project.
      • Help advocate for new Audio experiences through cross-team brainstorming sessions, workshops, and demonstrations.

      Required Qualifications

      • You bring 4+ years of professional experience with immersive audio design.
      • You have a strong understanding of a Digital Audio Workstation, Synthesis and Sound Design Techniques, and Audio Production.
      • You have a strong understanding of audio spatialization, spatial sound design, and spatial mixing techniques.
      • You are experienced at advising on concealing and integrating speakers, subwoofers, and audio hardware, without drawing attention to the equipment
      • You have an interest in and experience with advanced audio techniques like generative audio, interactive audio, and wavefield synthesis.
      • You have familiarity with QSys, Dante, or audio over network protocols.
      • You have experience with and interest in audio playback systems.
      • You are interested in and have experience developing interactive and creative audio.
      • You represent the project and department in a professional manner while working with internal and external partners.
      • You bring strong communication/collaboration skills and ability to thrive in a team environment.

      It would be nice to have…

      • 7+ years professional experience with immersive Audio and Audio system design.
      • Experience with scoring film, video games, or non-linear experiences.
      • Experience with additional creative programming environments (Max/MSP, Jitter, Processing).
      • You have experience developing and commenting on show packages using Revit, AutoCad, Bim360, and/or BlueBeam
      • Experience with exhibition or immersive Lighting Design and/or Video Design.
      • Experience as a Studio or Live Sound Engineer.

      Work Environment and Physical Demands

      To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed must be representative of the knowledge, skills, minimum education, training, licensure, experience, and/or ability required.

      Work Environment:

      This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and scanners. This position also works in an indoor setting with exposure to noisy environments, dim lighting, strong visual effects including strobing lights, special effects, fog machines and small and/ or enclosed spaces.

      Physical Demands:

      The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical ability to walk, stand, take stairs/slides/elevators, and navigate the elements during the day and night. Employee may be required to remain in a sitting or standing position for prolonged periods, and repeat motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times.

      Work Schedule:

      This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 9a.m. to 5 p.m. or 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

      Supervisor Responsibilities:

      This position does not require supervisory responsibility.

      Travel

      This position will require moderate travel (25%-30%)
