      Simulation Fellow in Medical Education with an interest in Infectious Diseases

      NHS Medical & Dental: Specialty Trainee C1/C2 (or equivalent) - £ 43,923 - £ 63,152(ST-8 equivalent)

      50% Simulation, 50% HCID Simulation and Training Development

      1.0WTE 40hrs per week

      Fixed Term - Up to 12 months

      This will include HCID PPE Training and in-situ simulation within adult ID, paediatric ID and adult and paediatric ICU, working alongside the HCID leads in those units. There will also be opportunities to tap into the wider Infectious diseases team and attend ID ward rounds, clinics and weekly infection education meetings.

      You will be supported in the post to develop your own simulation-based education competencies and portfolio through:

      regular faculty development days

      one-to-one senior Faculty Development Lead support

      as a learner on all our internal faculty development days

      trust-wide and network-associated opportunities

      programmed time for Self Reflection Sessions

      and funded to complete a postgraduate certificate in Clinical Education or relevant equivalent qualification.

      Main duties of the job

      Applications are invited for appointment to an exciting post as a Simulation Fellow in Medical Education with an interest in Infectious Diseases. This unique post offers an exciting opportunity for those interested in medical education to develop their experience and skills within a flagship simulation based education department at GSTT. The post will suit applicants interested in any hospital based acute specialty who wish to experience delivering medical education and potentially include it as part of their future career.

      The post will be for a period of up to 12 months attached to the Simulation and Interactive Learning (SaIL) Centre within Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. The role will be centered around simulation education and supporting HCID training which is well established and supported.

      SaIL has a robust heritage of fellowships and development of innovating and effective courses and simulation interventions throughout the range of patients we care for. We support post-graduate trainees, trust staff and the inter- professional workforce at Guys & St Thomas Hospital to deliver safe and effective patient care. We provide point of care simulation and centre-based simulation and clinical skills training supporting directorate specialties to deliver their own simulation based education delivery plans.

      Previous staff have gone on to complete simulation-based research at Masters and doctoral level and the centre has a presence at international level.

      • Full GMC Registration
      • IMT2+ Medic
      • By the time of completing the Fellowship will have no less than 6 months (WTE) of the training programme to run.

      Desirable

      • Prizes or distinctions
      • Presentation of work at a national or international meeting
      • Publications in peer reviewed journals
      • A StR or SpR in a recognised Infectious Diseases training programme. By the time of taking up the post will have completed 1 year (WTE) or more of an approved training programme

      Clinical Ability

      Essential

      • Satisfactory progression through medical training as demonstrated by satisfactory RITA or ARCP outcomes

      Desirable

      • Experience of working in a HCID setting

      Educational Capability

      Essential

      • Previous experience in medical education
      • Understands and can apply a range of educational concepts
      • Publications in peer reviewed journals
      • Additional degree or MSc in relevant subject area

      Desirable

      • Demonstrates knowledge of career pathways in medical education
      • Good general knowledge / broad interest in academic medicine
      • Research experience
      • Demonstrates how the post will benefit patients in London in future
