      Job summary

      Band 6 Pre-operative Assessment Sister/Charge Nurse

      This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual with clinical experience to join an established dynamic nursing team within pre-operative assessment. The prospective post holder will be a registered nurse.

      The clinic is presently open from 8am to 5pm 5 days a week. The service is based at North Manchester General Hospital.

      Main duties of the job

      The main objective of the unit is to assess and optimises patients for a wide range of elective surgical specialities therefore the prospective post holder will require a broad knowledge preferably within surgical nursing, although medical knowledge would be an advantage, with at least 18 months experience as a band 5 staff nurse. Pre-operative assessment experience and skills are essential. You will be reliable, innovative, and flexible with good interpersonal/communication skills.

      You will be expected to undertake clinical observations such as blood pressure, pulse, BMI and peak flow recording as well as clinical examinations such as MRSA screening, CPE screening, 12 lead ECG recording and venepuncture. The prospective post holder will be required to provide a comprehensive nursing and medical assessment, ensuring all necessary results and reviews are collated prior to admission

      You will assist in the development of an environment that supports the value of pre-operative assessment by working collaboratively with surgeons, anaesthetist, and the MDT, therefore the candidate will need to have a high level of clinical judgement and decision making skills and be able to carry out clinical duties in accordance with national, Trust and local standards and maintain a patient focused approach.
