Job Description

- Supervises staff and volunteers to provide a safe and healthy environment and a quality program.
- Treats every participant fairly and equally regardless of circumstances and abilities, making each feel good about themselves and encouraging a positive, fun environment.
- Sets every child up for success and meets with parents or school personnel when needed.
- Implements a developmentally appropriate curriculum and appropriately involves staff in its delivery
- Maintain cooperative, supporting relationships with children, parents/guardians, school and other YMCA staff.
- Sees that all appropriate supplies required to run a quality program are available.
- Refers new applicants for the program to the Child Care office; keeps up-to-date records on all children and staff as required by the State of Washington; orients parents in accordance with state requirements.
- Conducts staff meetings on a regular basis for the curriculum, evaluate activities at site, and discuss issues and concerns that may arise.
- Arranges for substitutes as needed according to YMCA subbing procedure.
- Understands licensing regulations and ensures the program is in compliance at all times. Follows all procedures and standards of the Y. Communicates effectively with Licensors and Program Directors.
- Maintains site in accordance with school district standards by doing such custodial duties as necessary to leave the general space, restrooms, sink, halls, playground in clean, orderly conditions.
- Attends trainings and staff meetings and participates in special committees as assigned.
- Reads and follows the guidelines of the policy manual and licensing and evaluation standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Be at least 21 years old
- Have completed 12 college credits (100 level or above) and possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- Enjoy working with school-age children
- Be able to develop positive, authentic relationships with children and adults from diverse backgrounds
- Be able to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
- Complete background check and obtain TB test prior to first day of work
- South Sound YMCA New Employee Orientation must be obtained within 45 days of hire
- CPR First Aid Training must be completed within 30 days of hire
- 30 hours STARS training must be completed
- MERIT Background Check and Fingerprinting
- Must provide the following health records as indicated by licensing standards set by Washington State Department of Children Youth and Families (DCYF):
- TB Test
- MMR Vaccination Records
- Membership to the South Sound YMCA for you and your household

The School-Age Site Director plans, directs and supervises our child care program at an assigned elementary school location. Sites are located in Lacey, Olympia, Tumwater, Shelton and Yelm, Washington.

Incumbent must be able to move freely and quickly throughout YMCA facilities; communicate effectively with people in person, on the phone and via written correspondence; and use a computer for a significant portion of the work day. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
