- The average starting salary for this position will fall in the range of $60,000 and $65,000 annually. Where candidates fall in this range will be based on skill and experience level.
- Oversees the education program, in cooperation with the Education Manager and the leadership team, for their assigned site(s).
- Ensures that all sites meet DCFS licensing requirements and NAEYC guidelines if applicable.
- Manages staffing ratios, assists in the preparation, training and implementation of site disaster preparedness plans and evacuation drills.
- Supervises all classroom practices – room arrangement, lesson plans, daily schedules, routines, and transitions to assure their adherence to program policies.
- Obtains and maintain CLASS observer certification.
- Conduct CLASS observations two times a year to ensure progression towards agency goals if needed.
- Provides coaching for education staff on best practices, as well as the agency’s Planned Language Approach which is specifically designed to support dual language learners.
- Assists the Family Engagement Manager in monitoring all aspects of Family Services including family goals and referrals.
- Supports teachers in the Mental Health Referral Process, including the development and implementation of individual child behavior plans.
- Assists the Health and Nutrition Manager in monitoring all mandated Health requirements and CACFP guidelines.
- Monitors the inventory of site materials, supplies, and equipment; makes purchases for the center, staying within the site budget.
- Assures accurate, complete, and confidential maintenance of employee and child records.
- Conducts monthly supervision/coaching sessions with teaching teams and FSWs on a monthly basis develop and tracks progress on the individual team member’s Professional Development Plan.
- Conducts monthly classroom observations for the accurate assessment of staff performance to complete annual employee evaluations.
- Monitors the professional development of all staff through Gateways.
- Assess current and future facility needs and makes preliminary arrangements with the Assistant Site Operations Manager and/or Facilities and Transportation Coordinator to meet site needs.
- Assures that all center level documentation and reports are complete, up-to-date, and accurate.
- Assures that all sites, in collaboration with the Health & Nutrition content area specialist, the Assistant Site Operations Manager and/or Facilities & Transportation Coordinator and Health Coordinator adhere to all Child Health & Safety standards.
- Participates in the program’s annual self-assessment process in collaboration with other Staff, parents and community stakeholders.
- As stipulated in the agency Code of Ethics, engage in effective interaction with diverse staff and service area populations through ongoing demonstration of non-bias respect and behavior.
Assist with cross collaboration with other content area specialists and partners in implementing Program Services. - Assists the Family Engagement content area specialist in organizing and securing a Parent Committee and authorizing a representative to the agency Policy Council.
- Substitutes as teaching staff when necessary.
- Attends meetings and trainings, as requested, to keep abreast of trends in the various service areas.
- Provides active supervision to ensure the safety of children while in the classroom, during transitions, and while on the playground. Ensures that no child shall be left alone or unsupervised.
- Ensures all content area data is accurately reflected in the agency’s Program Information Reports within set time frames.
- Participate in program recruitment efforts to maintain full enrollment.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge or familiarity with Head Start, Early Head Start, Prevention Initiative, Preschool for All and Preschool Expansion preferred.
- Understanding of the current state of the art in early childhood education, child health, mental health, and familiarity with the fields of disabilities services and parent involvement.
- Familiarity with community resources.
- Knowledge of day care licensing standards as well as standards of other regulatory bodies preferred.
- Effective, supportive supervisory skills, including the ability to assist personnel in developing self-direction.
- Sound understanding of Developmentally Appropriate Practice, cultural diversity, and inclusion.
- Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, Child Development or related field from an accredited college or university OR Advanced degree in field other than Early Childhood Education with at least 21 credit hours in ECE.
- A Gateways to Opportunity Level I Illinois Director Credential OR 3 semester hours of college credit in administration, leadership or management.
- 3+ years of child development experience in an early childhood setting,
kindergarten, or licensed day care center. - Satisfactorily pass all relevant screenings and criminal background checks.
- Driving for work required with a personally owned vehicle. Travel between sites required.

While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is required to sit and stand for sustained periods of time, frequently talk, hear, use hands and fingers to feel, handle, and operate objects or controls, and occasionally stand, bend, stretch, stoop, kneel and crouch. The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, and viewing a computer terminal.
