- Collects trash
- Clears vegetation
- Cleans and disinfects toilets
- Repairs picnic tables and grills
- Paints signs
- Maintains and repairs site buildings and shelters
- Maintains roadways, trails, and day use areas
- Plows and shovels snow
- Patches roads
- Grades rock roads
- Mows in picnic areas and along roadsides
- Mows and trims fire trails
- Trims and/or cuts brush and trees
- Maintains hiking and horseback trails
- Routinely operates utility tractors and ATV's
- Ensures buildings and gates are properly locked
- Provides site visitors with assistance and information on site programs, rules, and regulations
- Sells camping permits and firewood collection permits
- Installs reservation cards at shelters and campsites
- Assists stranded or injured visitors
- Contacts proper authorities and supervisor in emergency situations
- Checks site shop, public use areas, and facilities for potential safety issues
- Reports hazards and corrections to Site Superintendent
- Maintains/repairs hand and power tools
- Maintains records on equipment maintenance schedules and condition of tools
- Changes oil, belts, filters
- Makes repairs to picnic tables, grills, information boxes, toilets, etc.
- Constructs, installs, and maintains informational signs
- Plants trees
- Enhances wildlife habitat by mowing, seeding, and food plot planting
- Manages forest with TSI practices and hazardous tree removal
- Performs prescribed burns with direction
- Manages exotic plant and animal control efforts
- Applies pesticides
- Reports needed repairs, action to be taken to accomplish repairs, and materials needed to supervisor
- Completes simple repairs including replacing breakers, light fixtures, outlets, switches
- Repairs toilets and minor sewer leaks and clogs
- Makes minor repairs to water line issues such as leaking faucets, shut off valve replacement, water line repairs
- Provides on the job training to new employees and volunteers to familiarize them with site facilities, operations and programs, usable tools and equipment

Position Overview
Under direct supervision, performs semi-skilled maintenance and program support tasks at Trail of Tears State Forest: Operates trucks and other equipment including chainsaws, trimmers, tractors-driven and other mowers, bushhogs, tree spades, wood mower, power augers, and strump cutters.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation
2. Requires two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machineryQualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the state requirement for this classification
Preferred Qualifications
1. Two (2) years of working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing
2. Two (2) years of experience in following written and oral instructions
3. One (1) year of experience in informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules, and regulations
4. One (1) year of experience in outdoor recreation
5. One (1) year of experience in groundskeepingEmployment Conditions

6. Ability to lift, carry, and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds
