      Position Overview

      Under direct supervision, participates in the maintenance and improvements to all site structures including shower buildings, concession buildings, picnic shelters, and campground pads of World Shooting Complex. Performs routine site maintenance work and informs visitors of site facilities and agency/site specific rules and regulations. Maintains and improves play equipment areas, installs and repairs ground stoves, completes basic electrical and plumbing/water repairs and upgrades; performs routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment.

      Job Responsibilities

      1. Participates in the maintenance and improvements to all site structures including shower buildings, concession buildings, picnic shelters, and campground pads:

      • Maintains and improves play equipment areas
      • Constructs and repairs picnic tables and signage to include painting as directed
      • Performs needed concrete work and repairs
      • Installs and repairs ground stoves
      • Completes basic electrical and plumbing/water repairs and upgrades
      • Reroofs structures


      2. Participates in site grounds maintenance:

      • Mows and uses weed eater
      • Trims trees and shrubs
      • Repairs rock camp pads
      • Makes repairs to roadways
      • Patches and gravels roads
      • Plows and shovels snow
      • Collects and hauls trash and litter for disposal
      • Applies pesticides/herbicides
      • Cleans and disinfects restrooms, shower buildings, and other public use areas
      • Washes windows
      • Sweeps, mops, waxes, and polishes floors


      3. Operates and maintains site equipment:

      • Performs routine maintenance and makes repairs to small and large tractors, site vehicles. heavy equipment such as road grader, end loader, and other regional equipment such as tree spades, chipper, and stump cutters
      • Completes repairs and maintenance on small equipment such as weed eaters and chainsaws
      • Sharpens blades
      • Changes oil, filter, plugs
      • Winterizes equipment

      4. Prepare and tear down event venues such as shooting sports venues, vendor mall, event center or similar onsite destinations location:

      • Load/unload targets and target holding/throwing devices
      • Perform upkeep and maintenance to a wide variety of target machines and devices
      • Complete associated maintenance of infrastructure supporting the shooting sports industry standards and disciplines to include trap, skeet, sporting, rifle, pistol stages, archery, etc
      • Set up and remove equipment necessary to support a variety of events or events similar in nature such as weddings, home shows, R/V Associations, trade shows, concerts, etc
      • May be required to assist outside venders when requested.

      5. Assists in implementing safety and security programs at the site:

      • Inspects public use areas for hazards such as flooding, fallen trees, erosion, broken picnic tables, and road washouts:
      • Assists in the rescue of injured or stranded complex visitors
      • Contacts proper authorities in emergency or disturbance situations
      • Provides visitors with assistance and information on site programs, rulers and regulations
      • Investigates irregularities and documents incidents
      • Administer First Aid/CPR
      • Performs traffic control


      6. Provides leadership and direction to seasonal employees, volunteers, and other staff:

      • Provides on the job training to new employees and volunteers to familiarize them with site facilities, programs, tools, and equipment


      7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

      Minimum Qualifications

      1. Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation.
      2. Requires two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associates with the building trades and/or operation of heavy equipment and machinery.


      Qualifying state employees in the Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the state requirement for this classification.

      Preferred Qualifications

      1. Two (2) years of working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
      2. Two (2) years of experience in following written and oral instructions.
      3. One (1) year of experience in outdoor recreation.
      4. One (1) year of experience in groundskeeping.

      1. Requires ability to pass a background check.
      2. Valid and current Driver’s license.
      3. Ability to obtain pesticide operator’s license within 6 months of employment.
      4. Ability to withstand exposure to the elements on a year-round basis.
      5. Physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment, and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair, and care of site resources, buildings, and grounds.
      6. Ability to lift, carry, and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds.
      7. Ability to walk over rough and broken terrain.
      8. Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.
