      JOB TITLE: SLI Casting Operator DEPARTMENT: Manufacturing

      JOB SUMMARY: The SLI Casting Operator position is responsible for routinely participating and completing equipment set-up and changeovers. This position operates the equipment to produce alloyed grids and ensures produced parts meet specifications and quality characteristics. This is considered a special skills position, and the successful casting operator needs to meet the required education, training and experience and also have dependable work performance, and reliable attendance. The SLI Casting Operator interacts and works closely with the production shift supervisor and other members on the production floor.

      SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

      Understand and practice safety and environmental rules.

      Is responsible for:

      • Understanding and following policies, procedures, and instructions
      • Identifying and reporting product, process, and quality system non-conformities to lead personnel.
      • Controlling nonconforming products
      • Supporting implementation of corrective/preventive and improvement actions

      Train new hires as needed.

      Set up, shut down, monitor and control machine operations and change or correct settings to keep operations within specifications.

      Responsible for producing alloyed grids which are the conductive structure within the battery.

      Ability to identify and control non-conforming products.

      Performs mold, ladle, and trip die changeovers.

      Prepares molds for production- automobile paint style spray coating.

      Performs SPC checks on parts for weight and thickness.

      Responsible for palletizing produced parts in the correct form, label product and material correctly. Store products properly.

      Inspects produced parts for adherence to quality characteristics.

      Responsible for performing light equipment maintenance or part replacement as needed.

      Responsible for troubleshooting mechanical equipment for proper operation and timing.

      Responsible for day-to-day housekeeping of the production floor and surrounding area.

      Be able to perform daily paperwork and record keeping.

      Overtime as required.

      Be familiar and compliant with the systems, procedures and documentation of the Crown Quality System and how it relates to this position and Crown quality objectives.

      ACCOUNTABILITY: This position report directly to the Production Supervisor.

      EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:

      • Safety and environmental training
      • Must be 18 years of age
      • Annual hazardous waste/scrap management training.
      • Ability to communicate with co-workers, supervision, and management.
      • Familiar with inspection equipment, gauges and measuring tools

      WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand/walk for 8-10 hours at a time. Bending, twisting, and turning. Full use of both hands to finger, handle, or fell objects, tools, or tooling; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel crouch or crawl; talk to hear. The employee must be able to lift or move up to 75 pounds frequently and in excess of 140 pounds infrequently. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must follow OSHA guidelines on respirator fit testing and proper wear. Will wear goggles or face shield at all times while in department.       This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, at minimum of 8-hour shifts. Must be able to work all mandatory overtime as required; this could lead to working weekday and weekend overtime.
