      Req#: 4052587
At the Port of Portland, we use everything we have – our three airports, four marine terminals, five business parks, and all the resources, expertise, and experience behind them – to move with purpose, connecting people with powerful opportunities and creating value for our region. We use our power and influence to pull down barriers, unlock new opportunities, ensure more people share in our region’s success and include those who have been excluded in the past. And with your help – together with our partners, customers, and community – we’ll help drive meaningful change.

As the Social Media Manager, you’ll manage the social media presence for PDX, whose new main terminal opens May 2024, and for the Port of Portland as it rolls out a new mission-focused brand identity. You’ll craft and implement effective strategies that take our social presence to the next level (and have fun along the way). As part of the external communications team, you’ll play a key part in integrated campaigns and will partner with Port colleagues and external partners on a community-centered storytelling approach.

We offer a competitive benefits package, including retirement through the State of Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), and a collaborative and diverse work environment. In this position, you’ll have the opportunity to work a hybrid schedule, with three days remote and two days in office at our award-winning LEED Platinum headquarters building.
      • Develop and drive social media strategy for the Port of Portland as it launches new brand identity, and for PDX to increase brand awareness and engagement ahead of and during the opening phases of the new main terminal.
      • Plan strategic, creative approaches and create high-quality, engaging content for Port and PDX social channels. Includes copywriting and content creation across a variety of formats (graphic design, photography, shortform video, live video, etc.).
      • Maintain an editorial calendar aligned with all comms strategies.
      • Make recommendations for using emerging social media platforms, tools and capabilities.
      • Monitor performance across each brand’s channels and campaigns, tracking impact and engagement, synthesizing learnings, and proactively adjusting tactics and strategies as needed.
      • Develop a community management strategy for Port and PDX channels and serve as a liaison for emergency management.
      • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to produce content and provide proactive guidance and recommendations for organic and paid campaigns.
      • Work with creative teams to produce assets for high-visibility paid and organic social campaigns.
      • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, advertising, or related field.
      • Minimum of five(5) years of professional experience in social media management; or the equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience.
      • Able to drive social media strategy and create content in alignment with business strategies and media relations, brand marketing and digital content strategies
      • Advanced knowledge of the social media landscape, including major platforms’ capabilities and their latest asset requirements
      • Work performed primarily in a hybrid setting; some regular in-office time will be required, with additional in-office time driven by business need. May include local and regional travel. Potential for after-hours or weekend assistance in response to emergencies.
      Demonstrated skills:
      • Solid understanding of and ability to stay up to date with the latest social media trends, best practices, and emerging strategies and channels
      • Able to create high-quality, engaging, and accessible visual and audio content, with proficiency in design, photography, and video production
      • Excellent writing skills: able to distill and adapt complex information for different audiences and platforms; write clean, concise copy with excellent grammar; and proofread/edit.
      • Excellent attention to detail; able to manage and prioritize proactive projects alongside incoming requests and track shifting details and deadlines.
      • Regularly tracks performance and impact; synthesizes learnings; proactively adjusts strategies and tactics in response.
      • Thrives in a collaborative environment: is open-minded, seeks feedback from diverse perspectives, and demonstrates adaptability
      • Has vision, is proactive, and shows initiative
      • Thinks outside the box, tries new things, and isn’t afraid to make mistakes
      • Independently drives high-quality work and can self-manage time and projects
      • Promotes safety as a guiding principle and a regular practice in accomplishing work; focuses on safety improvements and complies with safety and health policies and procedures; shows the utmost respect for others and is a proven team player
      Ability to:
      • Multi-task, stay organized and pivot as needed in response to shifting priorities
      • Responsiveness to colleagues and meet deadlines
      • Demonstrate professional judgment and represent a public agency on social channels, responding to questions and issues
      • Work independently and collaboratively, within small teams and cross-functional project teams and with creative teams to develop visual content
      • Demonstrate commitment to valuing differences among individuals and passion for being inclusive.
