- Successful completion of thirty (30) semester credit hours of coursework from an accredited college or university, may be substituted for the Specialized Experience requirement on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of three (3) years.
- Satisfactory completion of a human, social services or health sciences curriculum at an accredited community college, technical school, or junior college which resulted in a Certificate of Achievement or Associate of Science or related degree may be substituted for Specialized Experience on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two (2) years.

Benefits:At the East Hawaii Health Clinics, the Social Service Assistant is a valuable member of our team. This position provides guidance and social assistance to community residents and enhances the community residents' ability to communicate effectively with healthcare providers and social service agencies. The Social Service Assistant IV identifies eligible individuals from across the community and care settings and enrolls them in federal, state, local, private or nonprofit health and human services programs. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experience is credited based on a 40-hour workweek.
Education Experience: Experience requiring the ability to read, comprehend, and apply written directions and a high degree of verbal skill in addition to the ability to make basic mathematical computations, including averaging. This experience may be met from part-time and/or unpaid work. There must, however, be evidence that participation was on a continuous basis but not necessarily on a full-time normal work basis. This requirement may also be met by possession of a high school diploma.
Specialized Experience: Three (3) years of experience in providing supportive services to professional workers in social service or health related agency; e.g. performing clerical tasks in processing various documents, transporting patients and materials to and from various destinations, observing and reporting of patients interactions, emotional and physical or mental symptoms of problems; explaining to patients/residents the services available, assisting in overseeing group activities. Experience must have involved engaging with patients and their families.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE:Licensure: Current valid Hawaii State driver’s license, Type 3. EVIDENCE OF LICENSE AND ORIGINAL COPY OF TRAFFIC ABSTRACT is required with the application.
Must be available to work shifts, weekends, and holidays as necessary, based on hospital operations (services are provided 24/7).
MEDICAL EXAMINATION REQUIREMENT: Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
