Communicate information to relevant parties (DFCS CM/SSS/Administrators) about a case, review paperwork, or update personal records within DJJ and DFCS for Dekalb juvenile court systems, which handle cases involving underage defendants.
Attends all court hearings to answer any questions from judges, prosecutors and attorneys as needed and monitor CM’s interaction and knowledge of cases and advise as needed.
Answer all Court Services electronic or written questions pertaining to DFCS/Child Welfare issues. Follow up with DFCS CM/SSS/Administrators and receive timely communication.
Answers questions from multiple sources (attorneys, judges' offices, prosecutors) on any matters pertaining to Dependency/Child Welfare issues within Dekalb DFCS.Reviewing CHINS complaints, assessing family and child needs, directing families to appropriate services, developing treatment plans (Safety Plans/FTM Action Plans) as needed, and case management.
Serve as a court representative from DFCS on the truancy panel if needed, developing diversion agreements with all parties and coordinating family services with community stakeholders.
Serves as DFCS court designee on a weekly basis Monday-Friday 9:00 am-5:00 pm.
Receive requests and review for accuracy from DFCS CM/SSS/Administrators, requests for dependency removal of children from their parents or legal guardians or when a child is derived from the bench. Intake decisions require the ability to professionally interact with Juvenile court probation team, law enforcement and numerous agencies, departments, and divisions, and to exercise sound judgment.
Responsible for the day to day interactions of court programs as assigned by the Presiding Judge (i.e. Family Treatment Program that Salim was attached to for DFCS referrals for Substance Abuse Treatment and other services from DFCS CM/SSS/Administrators, and to serve as court liaison with the appropriate agencies, community and treatment providers, related to one of the following categories: Dependency, Delinquency or Child.
- Ensures that all involved parties communicate, provide information and meet deadlines as required by law, DJJ court rules and DFCS policies. Work requires knowledge of the courts and legal process and the ability to coordinate processes from numerous outside sources.
Follow up with DFCS CM/SSS/Administrators regarding coordination of the Judicial Citizen Review Panels (attending panel reviews if needed); and reviewing, revising and submitting any needed treatment case plans in conjunction with follow up from DFCS Leadership to bridge any gap.
Review all filed CHINS complaints, assessing family and child needs, directing families to appropriate services, developing treatment plans as needed, case management, serving as the court representative on the truancy panel, developing diversion agreements with all parties and coordinating family services with community stakeholders.
- Excellent oral, written, and communications skills.
- Knowledge of child welfare and court practices is preferred.
- Knowledge of DFCS Child Protective Services and/or Foster care.
- Ability to use basic Microsoft applications and office equipment.
- SBC certified and understand knowledge of building case plans using family centered practice.
- Familiar with community services and various providers and external partners.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Must have reliable transportation, proof of auto insurance, a valid state-issued driver's license, and an acceptable driving history record
- Applicants must pass the standard agency testing protocol for the position in which they are hired in order to maintain the position.
- Although agency employees are authorized to telework temporarily, employees are subject to be called into the office as needed.

Pay Grade: G
This position has designated special entry salary that is non-negotiable. (With a Bachelors degree the special entry salary is $42,387.99; with a Masters Degree in a behavioral science special entry salary is $45,926.79 )
Under general supervision, the Social Services Specialist 1 provides investigative and comprehensive case management for a caseload involving child/adult abuse or neglect. Makes immediate and follow-up actions for at risk clients in need of protective services and/or placement.
Roles and ResponsibilitiesThe Social Services Specialist 1 (ARC Court Liaison) will serve in the capacity as liaison between the Dekalb Juvenile Court and Dekalb County DFCS. The ARC Court Liaison will be under the Dekalb ARC section in the newly formed Diversion unit.
