MISSION:
It is the mission of the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) to impact and transform young lives, strengthen families, and support safer communities through targeted prevention and rehabilitation.JOB PURPOSE:
Under limited supervision, plans develops, implements, and monitors the comprehensive social work, case management, and counseling services for youth committed to the Juvenile Detention Center (JDC). Supervises JDC social work and mental health professional staff. Must maintain professional licensure.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :
Oversees and manages the day-to-day social work, case management, and counseling services provided to both short-term and long term youth of JDC, including but not limited to pre-adjudicatory diagnostic evaluations, intake paperwork and case plans, positive behavior support plans, and screening for psychiatric medication needs.
Participates in DJJ treatment planning and interagency staffing; consults in cases of youth with special needs (e.g. mental health or developmental issues); consults with and provides consultation to DJJ Social Workers and Psychiatrist regarding problematic issues/cases.
Provides clinical supervision to JDC social work and behavioral health staff and trains staff in implementing positive behavior support plans, short-term solution focused interventions, the delivery of trauma informed services, and other services. Provides consultation to DJJ staff regarding youth involved with DJJ.
Provides crisis intervention services during the workday and participates in supervisory on-call rotation for after-hours crisis management needs.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum State Requirements :
A master's or doctorate degree in social work from a program accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting body for social work programs, or from a social work program whose standards are at least equivalent to the minimum standards required by the nationally recognized accrediting body as approved by the Board.
Special Requirements:
Licensure as a Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Independent Social Worker-Clinical Practice (LISW) by the South Carolina Board of Social Work Examiners (Board).
Agency Requirements:
At least five (5) years of social work experience, with at least one year of supervisory/administrative experience.
Additional Requirements:
Requires social work and case management administration, organization, and principles knowledge.
Foundational knowledge of current counseling and psychological theory and practice. Ability to communicate effectively with youth, staff, relevant agencies, and the concerned public.
Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and ethics codes pertaining to social work and counseling principles, practices, and procedures.
Ability to establish good working relationships with supervisees, supervisors, and other working professionals across disciplines within and beyond DJJ.
Ability to effectively motivate and manage supervisees.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
