    • Job Title: Elementary School Social Worker/School Counselor

      Indian Creek Elementary School is part of a small, rural community within DeKalb County. The school serves students from preschool through 4th grade, and enjoys high student engagement and family support.

      Salary and benefits commensurate with education and experience per teacher’s contract.

      Job Purpose: To provide counseling, support, and intervention to students, addressing mental health needs, behavioral issues, and social-emotional development. The social worker/school counselor works to improve the academic and personal well-being of students, while also supporting staff, families, and the school community.

      Key Responsibilities:
      ? Provide individual and group counseling sessions to students experiencing emotional, social, or behavioral challenges.

      ? Assess students’ emotional, social, and behavioral needs through observation, interviews, and standardized tools.

      ? Develop and implement individualized IEP goals for students with social-emotional concerns or behavioral difficulties.

      ? Collaborate with teachers and staff to identify students who may require additional support.

      ? Provide immediate support and intervention for students experiencing acute emotional distress, trauma, or other crises.

      ? Work closely with teachers, administrators, and other school staff to promote a positive and supportive school environment.

      ? Participate in team/IEP meetings to address student needs and develop strategies for managing challenging behaviors or academic concerns.

      ? Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians regarding their child’s progress, behavioral issues, and emotional well-being.

      ? Provide resources, referrals, and guidance to families for support outside of school, including mental health services, community programs, and parenting strategies.

      ? Teach students about social-emotional learning (SEL) concepts such as empathy, teamwork, resilience, and self-regulation.

      ? Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions, assessments, and interventions.

      ? Document and track student progress, communicating updates to parents, teachers, and administrators as necessary

      ? Act as District Homeless Liaison per McKinney-Vento Act

      . Qualifications:
      ? Education: A degree in Social Work (MSW) or School Counseling from an accredited university.

      ? Licensing: Professional Educator License (PEL) along with proper Illinois endorsement.

      ? Skills: Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Ability to collaborate with diverse groups, including students, parents/guardians, teachers, and community agencies.

      ? Knowledge: Knowledge of child development, mental health disorders, crisis intervention, and social-emotional learning practices.
