In Lambeth, we put child and their families at the heart of our practice, and practice at the heart of all that we do.
As part of this approach, we have developed “specialist” teams across the system which work with Lambeth’s children and families in new and innovative ways to ensure they receive the right support at the right time.
One such team is our “Flourish” Team which works to achieve better outcomes for mothers who have experience of care proceedings or the removal of a child from their care. Our work to that of that of pause.org.uk who services operate across the country.
Within the borough, many of our mothers who have experienced repeat removals are typically disadvantaged by intersecting social, emotional, environmental and health related challenges. Their children are often born with short and long term physical and emotional difficulties and in turn, become vulnerable adults requiring significant intervention and support from the local authority.
The Flourish Team has been set up to work to achieve better long-term outcomes for mothers/parents and their children by providing intensive and assertive outreach on an individual basis. During court proceedings, Flourish provides emotional containment to help women navigate the process and access the right support at the right time. Where a final decision is made around separation the team support birth parents around their loss and grief as well as to make informed choices to effect positive change by building parental resilience and accessing services linked to mental health, preventative care, sexual health, and in their on-going relationships with birth children.
We are currently looking for a social worker to join our small team, you need to have a keen interest in this specialist work, you may have experience of working in domestic violence, criminal justice system, sexual health, adult mental health, or a relevant therapeutic background, most of all you will need to be flexible and creative in your practice.
As a Flourish Practitioner, you will be allocated to a small caseload of mothers offering intensive outreach support and intervention to help build resilience in this vulnerable group of women. You will establish relationships with our key stakeholders to support individual change for women as well as promote whole system change; and you will have real autonomy to continue to collaboratively shape this new service alongside the Team Manager.
