      About the Position: This position is located at the Mental Health Services Department at 15th Medical Group Hickam Air Force Base, which is on the Island of Oahu, Hawaii.

      This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

      Advance in Hire may be authorized. This is only available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

      Duties


      • Provides consultation to installation leadership and medical professionals regarding clinical needs assessment, determining clinical intervention requirements, and developing implementation strategies.
      • Responsible for triage, safety planning, treatment planning, and establishment of treatment goals for the installation mental health programs at large and tailored to individual clients.
      • Determines appropriate treatment modalities and interventions for mental health disorders and other emotional and behavioral conditions IAW DoD, DHA, and professional social work standard of care practices.
      • Conducts intake evaluations and psycho-diagnostic assessments.
      • Accomplishes clinical intake interviews with patients, to include family history, biopsychosocial history, developmental history, risk and protective factors, and presenting problems together with any relevant secondary information.
      • Integrates findings and formulates clinical impressions to establish mental health diagnosis using appropriate guidelines.
      • Works with line operational units with embedded mental health professionals to address mental health factors impacting human performance, such as suicide, post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injuries, and anxiety disorders.
      • Provides evidence-based psychotherapy for a wide variety of complex psychiatric/social problems.
      • Provides a wide range of therapeutic measures that are geared toward securing cognitive and behavioral adjustments by recognizing and resolving problems relating to the patient?s attitude toward themselves, family, and others.
      • Provides psychological consultation, education, and training to other mental health professionals, medical staff, military commanders/senior leaders, and other DoD and civilian providers.
      • Develops and delivers training to equip embedded mental health professionals in operational units to perform a range of duties.

      Requirements


      • Must obtain and maintain a current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently within 6 months from entering the position.
      • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
      • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
      • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
      • Required to be on-call which includes evenings, weekends, holidays or special situations.
      • Must obtain and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification from the American Heart Association or Military Training Network.
      • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
      • Subject to pre-employment credentialing of DHA Health Care Provider which requires credentials review verification and documentation IAW DHA Manual 6025.12 Vol 4 dated 29 Aug 2019
      • This position may be designated "Mission Essential." In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
      • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
      • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

      Basic Requirements for Social Worker (Clinical): Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

      In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

      Specialized experience is defined as: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes conducting bio-psychosocial evaluations of behavioral health patients; providing individual or group counseling services; and developing behavioral health treatment plans and/or recommendations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

      Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
