The incumbent is a professional social worker assigned to the Knoxville Outpatient Clinic (OPC). The incumbent's primary focus is to provide medical social work services to eligible veterans as a means of assisting them to meet biological, psychological, social, and environmental needs; however, this social worker will provide a variety of other generalist social work functions.

As a member of the interdisciplinary treatment teams, the incumbent works independently using his/her educational training, clinical experience, VA policies, and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards in administering direct services.
