      The department of Neurology has an exciting opportunity for a Part Time Temporary Social Worker to work at UHealth. Social Worker provides patients, families, and caregivers with the psychosocial support needed to cope with chronic, acute, or terminal illnesses. Services include advising family caregivers, providing patient education and counseling, and making necessary referrals for other social services . The Social Worker works with members of the multidisciplinary team to further understand significant social and emotional factors underlying a patient's health and/or attitude problems. Work is performed according to established policies and procedures and in accordance with professional practice.

      • Responsible for social work services at the multidisciplinary ALS and MDA multispecialty and regular clinics.

      • Conducts suitability assessments of patients in the multidisciplinary clinic.

      • Provides psycho-social assessment and diagnosis of behavioral disabilities with recommendations.

      • Provides information and referral to public or private agencies with appropriate follow-up.

      • Provides information to patients about appropriate insurances and disability process.

      • Responsible for completing disability forms, workers compensation, Medicaid waiver forms and other governmental program forms.

      • Provides information and referrals of other agencies that may offer services for patients with ALS.

      • Provide brief support and counseling to patients and families to help adjust and adapt to a changed lifestyle.

      • Identify patient abuse or neglect and make contact with state investigating agency when appropriate- reports abuse as identified.

      • Identify environmental impediments to patient progress through interview and review of patient records

      • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.

      • Maintains confidentiality of all patients’ information according to HIPPA guidelines from University of Miami.

      Minimum Qualifications

      • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work

      • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

      Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

      • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

      • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

      • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

      • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

      • Commitment to the University’s core values.

      • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.

      • Proficiency in computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office).

      Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
