      In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

      Reporting to the Team Lead, Corporate Business Solutions, the Software Developer develops, maintains and supports Island Health corporate business systems including user interfaces, integrations with other systems, databases, and reporting; builds tools to meet operational and strategic needs of the Corporate Services portfolio. The Software Developer is a lead resource responsible for the architecture, design, implementation, integrity, and operational support of both new systems and system changes supporting business process improvements in the Corporate Services portfolio, and support of Corporate business projects.

      The Software Developer possesses strong analytical and technical skills in order to identify opportunities for process improvement, develop business and technical requirements, and design and implement systems and the supporting databases.

      QUALIFICATIONS:

      Education, Training And Experience

      A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Computer or Health Information Science and at least five (5) years' recent related experience in areas such as web application design and development, SharePoint development, and Microsoft SQL Server development. Experience in determining functional requirements and in translating those requirements into a well-designed and fully functional application. Experience with large scale projects.

      • Ability to write software programs in a variety of programming languages
      • Experience developing Web applications.
      • Strong relational and dimensional data modeling and database design skills
      • Experience in Microsoft SQL Server development and Structured Query Language (SQL)
      • Ability to transfer knowledge and skills to other department staff
      • Ability to write clear and concise system documentation and procedures for other staff
      • Ability to keep skill set up to date with new technologies as they are introduced to the workplace
      • Familiarity with HL7, XML, and MIS guidelines
      • Ability to work independently and organize workload and priorities with minimal supervision
      • Physical ability to perform job
