      The Software Engineering Director will be responsible for building and leading a high performing team that is focused on using technology, advanced analytics, embedded insights, and product design principles to innovate and deliver modern solutions aligned to strategic initiatives in support of Supplemental Health Solutions (SHS) products. SHS is growing – with annual revenue of $300M+. Ares of investment include robust digital experiences, the use of advanced analytics, and capitalizing on intelligent automation.

      In this role you will collaborate with business leadership and technology partners to define and execute on a shared vision. You authentically engage with your team and matrix partners to ensure ongoing alignment and delivery success. You are dedicated to technical excellence for yourself, your team, and the software you deliver.

      The ideal candidate should have 7+ years of experience in building and leading high performing teams and 8+ years of experience in software engineering, preferably in health care or a related industry.

      Job Responsibilities

      • Grow our engineering team – Invest time in developing team members and mentoring; attract, hire, and retain top talent

      • Collaborate with Agile product teams and partners across business unit, operations, and peer technology areas to co-create product features for our end-customers and clients, including the back-end process changes and system applications required to realize these features.

      • Responsible for software product engineering deliverables and activities including solution architecture reviews/recommendations, design, development, testing, and automation

      • Track and monitor the progress of milestones and team velocity, recommend adjustments as necessary

      • Leverage technical expertise and event based architecture experience to ensure we are building scalable products that are highly performant and secure

      • Lead our in-house engineering team working in conjunction with software platform vendors, system integrators, and multinational technology staffing vendors to deliver large scale end-to-end software solutions that enable our business lines

      • Define and implement a labor strategy that takes advantage of state-side labor alongside multinational talent from world-wide innovation hubs and multinational technology staffing vendors to most efficiently and effectively deliver business value

      • Be accountable for managing within a given annual baseline budget and a variable project investment

      • Manage software product development efforts by participating in business strategy sessions, defining shared outcomes, and aligning appropriate talent to the effort

      • Ensure tech stack selection and software development patterns align to the technology strategy and are optimized for the business use case

      • Makes decisions, often based on limited information, that have a long-term impact across the function

      • Create end-to-end Solutions that maximize alignment with target states and reuse of IT assets

      • Focus on automation and exploring opportunities to leverage and benefit from Gen AI

      • Inculcate a continuous improvement culture that is constantly monitoring the performance, cost, security, and quality of the solutions implemented

      • Collaborate with peers to build complimenting software products, sharing learnings and innersourcing to reduce duplication and create synergy

      • Foster an engineering mindset culture that is focused on increasing business value velocity, building products of high quality that can scale, and user experiences that support end to end workflows that are rich with insights and simple to use

      • Stay current on technology in order to capitalize on new capabilities that can advance business

      Qualifications:

      • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field

      • Cloud certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect are preferred. Strong knowledge of cloud computing concepts

      Industry / Domain Experience Needed:

      • 7+ years' experience in leading engineering teams focused on software delivery, experience working with global teams a plus

      • 8+ years experience in building solutions with an event driven architecture

      • 5+ years experience in health care

      • Excellent ability to develop and build teams by assessing quality talent and motivating/inspiring others

      • Proven strategic thinker that can successfully partner in a highly matrixed environment

      • Experience in scripting languages such as: JavaScript, Python, R, Ruby, Perl, etc.

      • Experience in web development frameworks such as: React, Angular, Vue, etc.

      • Experience with data platforms (Databricks, Snowflake, etc.) and working with large data sets

      • Experience in data modelling, ETL processes and database management systems

      • Experience architecting enterprise-class, cloud-based systems with background in application development, including mobile technologies, web services, and back-end application infrastructure

      • Proven track record of delivering software engineering initiatives, IT-application initiatives, and cross IT/business initiatives

      • Demonstrated success with delivering products using modern software techniques

      • Applied expertise in software engineering methodologies including automation and CI/CD

      • Experience in scalability and performance tuning

      • Experience scoping complex projects/capabilities and driving through to completion, identifying risks and improvement opportunities

      • Experience forming and/or maintaining Agile Release Train(s)

      • Experience managing a multimillion-dollar operating budget and multi-year financial planning


      If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

      For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 161,500 - 269,100 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

      This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus and long term incentive plan.
