      The Department of Consumer and Business Services (DCBS) is a progressive business regulatory state agency dedicated to the mission of protecting and serving Oregon's consumers and workers while supporting a positive business climate. The department administers state laws and rules governing workers' compensation, occupational safety and health, financial institutions, insurance companies and building codes. The department has consumer protection and education programs, offices, and ombuds to help consumers, injured workers, and businesses.

      This position is with the Information Technology and Research (IT&R) Section of the Central Services Division. IT&R provides a broad range of specialized technical services in the areas of information systems, data analysis/dissemination, and computer/telecommunication services for a large, diverse agency. The staff support the collection, processing, analysis, and dissemination of statewide and regional data about workers' compensation, accident prevention, insurance, financial institutions, corporate securities, building codes, and senior health insurance benefits. The section supports a number of critical systems to meet the regulatory requirements for each program and interact with other state and federal agencies.

      This position is eligible for hybrid remote work on a part-time basis once the incumbent has gained the proficiency to perform work independently. However, regular scheduled office hours are also required. This position may be required to work off-hours as necessary should serious problems occur or if systems must be maintained without affecting staff’s normal operations.

      Here’s what you will do:

      As a Software Tech, your duties will include:

      • Installing, configuring, and maintaining end user software on desktops and Citrix servers

      • Testing software products and installations

      • Ensuring applications are patched and updated for security, regulatory and policy compliance

      • Monitoring system performance, addressing performance problems, and recommending solutions to appropriate staff

      • Answering questions about system use

      • Researching user issues, contacting vendor support if necessary

      Here’s what you need to qualify:

      Minimum Qualifications:

      • Four (4) years of information systems experience in endpoint management, user support, or software deployment

      OR

      • An associate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, OR completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field AND two (2) years of information systems experience in endpoint management, user support, or software deployment

      OR

      • A bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field

      Requested Skills:

      • Experience with System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) or other automated deployment tool

      • Experience with automated patching and version compliance

      • Strong understanding of Windows 10 and 11

      • History providing excellent customer service

      • Strong communication skills (written and in person)

      • Per the Pay Equity Law passed in 2017, a pay equity analysis will be conducted to determine what pay step the successful candidate will be offered. The analysis will be based on the relevant experience, education, training, and certifications documented in the application materials. On average, candidates new to state service will most likely be offered compensation in the lower to mid-level of the salary range.

      • The salary range listed is the non-PERS eligible rate. If you’re already a participating PERS member or once you become PERS eligible after 6 months of employment, the salary range will increase by 6.95% and the required 6% employee retirement contribution will be deducted from your pay.
