Design of appropriate sound system needs for the fall production of the school of music
Installation of theatrical audio system in theater and supervising crew to assist in the work
Serving as mixer for the run of the show
Other duties as assigned
One years’ experience as a audio technician in the entertainment industry
Experience as sound designer on at least two theatrical productions
Knowledge of and experience in mixing live performances
Experience programming theatrical audio control consoles

Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Music is seeking applications for a part-time, hourly, fixed-term Sound Designer/Mixer position. The appointment will begin on August 18, 2025, and conclude on October 14, 2025.
Hours will vary week to week. A projected calendar can be provided upon request.
This position will be responsible for the sound design, installation and run of show for the fall opera for the school of music, and supervising student crew assigned to you in the theatre.
Core responsibilities will include:

The work in our performance venue may involve a need to work at heights of up to 30’, use of a ladder or personnel lift, the lifting and/or carrying of awkward and/or heavy objects and the manipulation of hand tools and equipment in small or confined spaces for short periods of time.
