- Under the supervision of the Program Director of Adult Education design and teach relevant units of core GED content areas.
- Help students develop skills needed to successfully increase and satisfy all benchmarks.
- Ensure all instructional activities clearly relates to student’s academic goals and learning objectives, which includes skill development, and are documented in lesson plans submitted weekly.
- Adapt educational processes and procedures to enhance students’ educational outcomes.
- Read, evaluate and administer TABE Español to students during Intake
- Provide targeted whole group, small group, and/or individual instruction to students in order develop skills needed to prepare for the GED® exams.
- Provide regular and prompt feedback to students regarding their academic progress, and manage the development of students’ academic portfolios.
- Establish and maintain an organized and supportive classroom environment where students actively participate and show respect for the teacher and one another.
- Complete attendance and other relevant clerical obligations as assigned.
- Conduct proctoring, scoring, and interpretation of tests.
- Assist with (in-person) outreach and recruitment when needed.
- Make follow up phone calls with Spanish HSE students to plan for their success, establishing ongoing direct communication with students.
- Ensure participant compliance to program rules and regulations.
- Build a collaborative relationship with participants and provide an example as a positive role model.
- Participate in pre-program training, and ongoing professional development and coaching as requested.
- Adhere to policies and procedures, maintaining a safe working environment, prioritizing the safety of participants while working physically on site.
- Use effective and secure practices in data collection and management to contribute to accurate reporting and protect the confidentiality of staff and participant’s information.
- Outreach is conducted to inform and educate neighborhood residents on CHLDC programs and services to optimize awareness within the community.
- Demonstrates commitment to leadership development, community building, and community organizing as strategies for social change.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bilingual, Spanish/English required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or related subject required.
- Demonstrated ability to work with struggling learners, and motivate/encourage them to persist towards their goals.
- Candidates must possess strong content knowledge of all subject areas, particularly Reading and Math.
- Experience facilitating youth development workshops preferred.
- Experience with flipped classroom instructional model preferred.
- Master’s Degree preferred.
- $35.00 - $40.00 per hour based on education/experience
- Schedule: Monday – Wednesday, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm.

Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation has an opening for one (1) Part-Time Spanish HSE/GED Instructor in the Youth LEAD Program in the Career and Education Programs Division at our 276 Chestnut Street office in Brooklyn, New York. We seek an adult education teacher that can teach secondary and pre-secondary lessons for reasoning through Language Arts and Math for young adults working toward their High School Equivalency Diploma. All instruction taught exclusively in Spanish.
