      Job Summary:

      The Arizona Attorney General’s Office Criminal Division/Special Investigation Section is seeking a Special Narcotics Taskforce Agent.
      As a Special Narcotics Taskforce Agent conducting felony investigations, operational considerations may require you to work varying hours, weekends, holidays, and respond after hours; agents can also be deployed to assist allied agencies in response to a critical incident that falls within the protocols of the National Incident Management System or the State of Arizona Mutual Aid protocols.

      Job Duties:

      The position is assigned to the Maricopa County Sheriffs HIDTA Task Force in Phoenix. This position will also work closely with other law enforcement agencies to interdict, investigate and prosecute those who traffic in drugs. This position will conduct full investigations to eliminate the production, manufacture, transportation, distribution, and chronic use of illegal drugs and money laundering. The employee will also provide investigative and litigation support for violations of Arizona Criminal and Civil statutes related to serious felonies, organized crimes, drug trafficking, money laundering and fraud. This position will follow investigations from inception through completed prosecution, coordinating them for the greatest effect on drug trafficking and money laundering in the Southwest.
      Successful criminal and civil allocations and prosecutions will result from the employee's investigative work. This will be accomplished largely through production of investigative reports, evidence collection, suspect/witness interviews and court testimony. The employee must be safety conscious and use proper work methods by following standard police policies and procedures. Position is also responsible for conducting criminal and civil fraud investigations, specializing in undercover operations including but not limited to surveillance, use of electronic devices and control of confidential informants. The employee will be accountable for usage and knowledge of all specialized equipment, such as covert transmitters, radios, and weapons and undercover operations. The employee will perform tasks requiring certification as a peace officer by AZPOST.

      Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

      Complete working knowledge of the Arizona criminal and civil statutes with an emphasis on drug trafficking and money laundering statutes. Considerable knowledge of criminal litigation, investigative interviews, report writing, and undercover techniques. Must know asset and tracing procedures, rules of evidence, investigative techniques and methods, evidence collection, use of confidential informants, search and seizure, methods of evidence collection, and testifying in administrative and court proceedings. Skilled in oral and written communication. Studied courses specializing in surveillance equipment. Attended training seminars in use of informants and undercover operations. Read manuals and other training materials related to law enforcement.

      Worked in an undercover capacity with other law enforcement agencies and have more than five years of law enforcement experience.
      Skilled in witness interviewing, report writing, asset tracing, search warrant laws and techniques, evidence collection, court testimony, wire taps, and use of confidential informants. Ability to find, collect, preserve and evaluate compiled information to determine the validity of alleged violation. Ability to use a variety of equipment including but not limited to weapons, vehicles, 2-way radios, surveillance equipment, computers, and police issued equipment. Communicate findings to others orally or through spreadsheet format. Use of strong time management skills.

      As a Special Agent, this position must have the ability to find, collect, preserve, and evaluate information to determine the validity of and relevance to the alleged violation(s). This position must demonstrate initiative, self-motivation, and determination to consistently advance investigations and bring them to a successful conclusion.

      As a Special Agent assigned to Maricopa County HIDTA Task Force, this position must also have the ability to work well with other city, state and federal law enforcement partners to advance criminal investigations which meet the goals of the Arizona Attorney General's Office.

      Selective Preference(s):

      As Special Agent assigned to this task force, the applicant will have at least five years of investigative experience, which should include working successfully in undercover assignments with minimal supervision; have the understanding and working knowledge to conduct non-traditional investigative techniques and their associated legal standards and have a good understanding of financial investigations.

      • Travel is required for this position. A valid Arizona Driver’s License is required, along with consent to have your driving record run periodically.
      • Requires certification by the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (A.Z P.O.S.T.). Applicants must be a certified Arizona peace officer in good standing or be eligible to obtain Arizona peace officer certification via the AZPOST waiver process within 90 days of hire date. To be eligible, a person must have previously served as a certified peace officer in Arizona, another state, or federal agency; must have completed basic and advanced training that demonstrates substantial comparability to the Arizona basic course; and must meet all of the minimum qualifications for certification as an Arizona Peace Officer.
